stream mp3 compatability

Featured Replies

I was looking at an aftermarket bluetooth kit with built in usb for my mp3. I nearly clicked buy, but thought checking may be wise....

I have a 'stream mp3' in my octavia.

on the compatability list, it says:

Skoda

RNS

MSD

Radio Dance

and under supported profiles:

SPP, GAP, SDAP, A2DP (Transfer of audio data), AVRCP (Remote control for Audio/Video), HFP (hands free phone calls)

will this work with the stream mp3? I have never heard of rns or msd units. not worried about maxidot display, but would like the stream to disply tracks and calls if possible. I do not have steerng wheel controls...

the issue headunits have with usb is they are "dumb" unless designed for use with usb.

They will simply see the usb as a load of data but not know what to do with it, even if the data is mp3, wma etc

This is why when plugging in a mp3 player unless its designed for the job you need to control the music from the mp3 player and not the headunit

RNS is the VW / AUDI equivalent of the Skoda head units.

RNS-510 = Columbus for example.

There are also RCD units as well.

Which bluetooth kit is it you're looking at?

not sure. less than £100 to justify after all the other stuff I have bought (trying out the snow foam in a sec). fav at the mo is the motorola tk30

or parrot mki9000, although that has no screen and I guess will not show tracks on the head unit.

I would like:

bt hands free

usb playback from a usb stick with a last played track memory (this is quite important, I listen to lots of audiobooks on my commutes) and bt streaming is not a perfect option for me.

if poss, but I doubt it, to show calls and tracks on the stream mp3 head unit.

all for less than 100 notes. not asking much, am i! happy to look 2nd hand on ebay if needed.

any recommendations?

you might get more tech help from an audio forum mate.

Try http://www.talkaudio.co.uk

They have, as very active members, distributors, installers and shop owners. You should get an answer on there

Most of these devices plug into the OEM headunits in place of the CD changer, since all VAG headunits use the same CD changer it should work. No track details will be displayed on the headunit, it still thinks it's a normal CD changer.

What normally happens, is you create 6 folders on the memory stick CD1, CD2 etc. and each represents a CD. You then place a maximum of 99 tracks in each folder (the max CDs support) and switch between each folder using the CD control buttons on the HU.
