gearbox oil replacement

Featured Replies

hi all, how easy is it to replace the gearbox oil on my skoda octavia 1.9 tdi 55 reg, just wondering coz ive recently started to get vibration when cold (more noticeably) and think it might be this 160,000 0n clock and think its probably original oil from new in also what would be the best type to put in? taxi driver..thanks in advance guys-peter...

.

Vibration might be the DMF. I doubt that it's down to the gearbox oil.

solid flywheel conversion already done..and still running great 40,000 miles ago so not that dave..

I have read somewhere in a VAG technical bulletin that says the gearbox is now mounted at an angle different from the original design angle and that means you can't put enough oil in through the top up hole.

What you have to do is drain, measure the amount drained (1.9l), then replace that amount through the hole through which the reverse light switch fits.

From what I read it's not any more difficult than draining the engine oil but if you are doing it yourself or using an independent I would confirm they know about filling the gearbox through the reverse light switch. Or confirm I don't know what I'm talking about :)
