Wing Mirror Glass

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know this has been covered before, I've spent about 45 minutes doing a read up.

I've just taken off the O/S wing mirror glass because heater element has failed. There's a voltage across the two cables and I've a new mirror glass which I've tested and is working fine. Except I can't get the d*mn thing back on!

Skoda did my other side a few years back and made it look a breeze. From reading posts here, it's a breeze. What can I be doing wrong? I don't want to be defeated by a bit of glass and end up having to get a mechanic to fit it!

I've put the circular clip on the new mirror glass. That has a little flexi plastic tube that sticks out and goes into the motor assembly unit. I push that in fine but I can't get any other lugs to grab the mirror. I've greased them up slightly but nothings grabbing. Any suggestions?

my drivers side mirror was hard to get on too. i put the centre black circular plate flat in the housing then pushed the mirror on harder than i would have liked and it clipped on ...... my passenger side was the complete opposite it fell off and fell back on .... strange really

Yep, I remember when Skoda fitted the other side. He just came out to my car and did it in front of me so I knew what to expect noise wise! Good to have both sides heated again, they make a great difference in winter/Spring

Normally you have to line the glass up then rest your palm on the glass and 1 hand behind the housing and push the glass like f**k :)

^ That would have probably worked, I just got to a certain point and thought something may break if I push any harder. The other method worked a treat though, hopefully anyone else who finds it a pain to get back on will read this and do it in no time
