***FEELER*** - Seat Leon Cupra -

Featured Replies

An odd pre-ownership for sale thread here.

My work fleet has had a Seat Leon Cupra on it for the last 10 years - no I have no idea who was prepared to pay the company car tax on it either!

The company has decided it is time to part with it and they have offered it to me.

I can't conceivably afford to run this instead of one my Fabias but my wheeler-dealer nature says I should take a punt on it, find a good home for it and potentially pocket a few quid.

1.8T 20v 180bhp

03 plate

flat bright blue

"starfish" alloys

it is the earlier rounded Cupra model as per this one (but it's not this one)

Mileage is at 144,000 but it has been maintained relentlessly to the company standards.

It remainded in daily use until it's thirst pushed it to the fringes of the fleet where it has remainded as a rarely used "pool car" for the past few months.

It's sporadic use and slighly unloved status extends to the fact that the engine light is ablaze and it loses boost during accelration, pointing towards a MAF issue.

Other than that it drives perfectly.

If i do take the plunge i plan to get it looked at by my tame VW master tech cousin to at least diagnose the issue if not fix it.

I need to know theres a market at this price before i buy (as i hate risk) so other normal concrete details are a bit sketchy.

MOT - yes

Tax - yes

Expiry Dates - yes it has those too.

Service history - yes it's historically been serviced.

If people are intersted i can certainly find out more info and relay back.

Price is based on cash on collection from Cheltenham/Glocuester or local meet up

£2000

That's a normal Cupra, not an R. :) The R has 18" wheels and the big brembo calipers. :)

I'll stick my neck out here, especially as this isn't technically a for sale thread ;) and say that it might not make 2k in the open market, with that mileage.

Depends what you buy it for of course, what needs doing and what cost and what margin you can achieve.

10 points to that man! Thread title and 1st post needs an edit :)

Indeed I have kind of gone off half cocked.

As demonstrated by not even really knowing what i'm potentially buying and selling!

Arthur Daley I am not!

It was cheap enough at the price they offered it to me to get me interested, and to me it still seems cheap at 2k

However if there's no market for it at that price I probably won't bother hence this feeler (now at least) thread

It's a similar story with the mid-90's BMW 5 series i drive past everyday for sale at £900.

I alwasys think "wow that's cheap surely it's be worth a punt" :)

You just have to look at the 2nd hand values of properly working, well maintained, FSH Mk1 Octy vRSes to demonstrate that £2k is pricey.

There's a few for sale on here currently at silly money, enough to get me thinking of something as a stripped out track proposition :)

I know this isn't directly comparable, but as an example: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/260481-black-51-plate-octavia-vrs-1100-or-will-be-scrapped/

Think that's 'Jazz Blue' too, same as the Mk4 Golf.

That's another possible sale issue as it's a bit of a divisive colour.

It would probably have been good as an R, but as a normal 180hp cupra, £2k is probably a bit much. As above, compared to mk1 octy vRS of same era, I would say Octavia represents better value. Not 100% but I also think the cupra only has 288mm brakes, VS 312mm on the octavia. (stand to be corrected there)

I would search the usual haunts for equivalent private sale cars, and make the call then. £1.5k is probably more realistic sadly.

it should have the 312/256mm setup

for a car with engine light on and poss maf fault but ou dont know!! and with that milage for a base car you imo will be lucky to get 1k buddy

can pick these up for between 1k and 1300 without issues

If theres no market at that money then I shan't be proceeding.

That and th keeper of the purse strings said that I was absolutely not allowed to "gamble" with that kind of money and what the hell were we going to do with a 3rd car!?
