What induction kit is this? I had a pipercross one fitted for abit and on tick over and driving it was really loud like having the air box lid off it and whoosed when changing gear but Ive fitted a k&n 57i today that was on my focus st170 and its barely any louder abit like yours, no whoosh when changing gear liketh pipercross one. Im quite glad it doesnt sound like a tractor likethe pipercross one though

pics of the engine bay :)

Its a BMC induction kit that i had from my Golf so like you, i've just used my ingenuity to make it fit.

I used some of the old plastics from the standard kit, faced it away from the engine and put a cold air feed onto it where the OEM one went.

It sounds better when driving.

Er, i dont want to post pictures of it as it looks hideous haha! it needs a respray and i had to cut some of the plastics to make it fit from the old hoses. I'll tidy it all up when i'm next off work then get some engine bay shots.

The pipercross one was metal so I had to order a silicone hose to fit it but the k&n is a rubber neck so was a straight fit. Looks quite nice in the bay so I will keep it on but would of liked the whoosh. I fund the pipercross was less restrictive than the standard box at high rpm but the k&n doesnt feel overly different to be honest.

I've not had a chance to rag it properly yet. Cant wait to hear it properly.

I don't think you will be very impressed lol. I'm used to petrol so miss the induction roar

You'll be happy with heat-soak you'll get after driving for a while.

I fitted an open cone on my tdi leon

Total cost

£23 for the k+n filter.

All other parts i had in my shed! Sounds quite good for a diesel! Zero heat soak issues and managed 185bhp on a rolling road yday so its all gravy

I'm not worried about heat soak, its enclosed and i've got a port coming from the front of the car, like i said.

I love a home built system haha well done! you should see the state of mine though... yeesh. Although i am proud of myself for thinking of it.

Lol. Still sounds like a clattery diesel.

Its a shame they are not smoother sounding. Cant beat a petrol sound.

Get a pic of it up

I really dont want to put a picture of it up yet, it looks as well put together as a 1990's skoda

Nah really i need to tidy it up and re route the breather hose somewhere. I found an old breather pipe in the garage today too so i'll fit that.

I'll do it all tomorrow and put a pick up.

You heard a donkey derv with the likes of a gtb2260vk on it?

With a turbo back? Its actually rather impressive for an oil burner

A few of my k&n fitted. For some reason it's louder today?? Sounds quite nice for a derv but still no whoosh :-(
