where do you go?

Featured Replies

where do you guys go for fuel? i go to Morrison's and use the card to get points, there diesel contains up to 7% bio- diesel but think it is within the limits of the bio diesel regulation, where do you top up for diesel/petrol and how is the pricing as it is slowly starting to climb again

I religiously go to shell for my diesel now to get their fuelsave (their standard brew now), after I discovered the wonders of high cetane fuel thanks to a thread elsewhere on Briskoda.

Cost me 142.9p/litre yesterday.

I also add a shot of millers ecomax to each tank, which adds a whole £1 to the price of my fill-up.

Tesco and I have for the last 15 years with no ill effects.

I always used to fill up at Asda and occasionally a fill up at Shell for good measure. Thought id try Tesco fuel a few years back and always got better mpg. So now I always fill up with Tesco momentum and if I have to I'll stick the odd tank of Shell Fuelsave.

I just stick diesel in.

Morrisons when local. Cheaper than the competition, food voucher points useful as we shop there too. I've got their diesel garages as a POI if I'm travelling elsewhere in the UK.

Shell fuelsave if I can, if I can’t (I am certainly not going to drive more than a mile or two out of my way to fill up) then wherever is the cheapest, usually Tesco’s.

Despite my dad working for Morrisons (so have been offered several money off vouchers) I have never filled up there, there is not one local and it is also rumoured (not sure if there is much truth in it as I have never used it) that VAG diesels do not like their fuel.

Can vouch for the Morrisons fuel not liking VAG engines - when I had my 07 Octavia I used to get a blip/mis-fire/judder at around 1,500-1,800 rpm and after the Skoda technicians looked at it they reckoned it was fuel related, was using Morrisons at the time!

I'm on a fuel card so fill up wherever that is - is mainly Jet (is it's close to home) but also BP alot.

Always use shell v-power keeps every thing nice and clean.

Sainsbury's, for their regular unleaded. It's the nearest, and I get Nectar points ( I know I'd get them at BP too, but their fuel is a lot dearer). Brim-to-brim average in the 4 months I've had the car is close to 43mpg. I have no regrets whatsoever at having returned to petrol after 20 years driving diesels.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the petrol engines are as fussy about their fuel as the diesel ones. As long as it's at least 95 octane.

Tesco Momentum Petrol.

Shell fuelsave diesel for me ever since I've had the car.

When I had the Octy the independent garage I used suggested at it's last service to avoid the supermarket stuff. They said it left too much crud behind. These days I find that the local Shell is typically the same or 1p cheaper than the Morrisons down the road and I've a choice of about 4 shell garages within a couple of miles drive from my house.

i never let the tank go too low, i try to make sure it doesn't get dangerously low as that is where allot of the rubbish in the tank sits, i only use Morrison's cause it is local and the clubcard they have, there is a wee local family owned fuel station even closer to me than Morrison's,but there fuel is absolutely stinking and they petrol tanks they are held in are donkeys years old and would defo not refuel any car there

Though its a fabia rather than a superb, I always try to use a main company rather than supermarkets, mainly Shell as I have a points card (and do 45k a year!). Though the shell garages in east englia no longer do Shell fuelsave as the refinery producing it in the area shut down, they say at the stations that its temporarily unavailable.......but its been like that for a year now!

Shell V-Power Diesel. Never seen the DPF light or even noticed one in 16,000 miles. Around £1.50 a litre though

at the risk of being controversial and having across here from the Land Rover forum where my point 2 below has arisen and I now practice with a fair degree of success:

1. I have been involved in the construction of supermarket petrol stations

And as far as I know they buy their fuel from the majors so whilst it my say own brand on the pump it is likely to be Shell or BP or similar . It may have changed but I have seen an ASDA station filled with a BP tanker.

2. I now run 1:200 mineral based 2 stroke in my Fabia and did in my Discovery 3- results In a quieter engine and is better for the components particularly your fuel pump and EGR valves. The Disco 3 set swear by it! It even seems to get you more mpg. I reckon I am seeing about 2mpg improvement. 2 stroke from ASDA or Tesco is best. £5 per litre

Tesco Momentum Petrol.

Mike,

I intended to carry on using Tesco Momentum when I switched from my Golf GTI (where 98+ RON is recommended) but when I researched it at the time, apparently it has no impact on power or fuel consumption in the 1.8 TSI . So I've saved my pennies and just filled up with regular unleaded.

Do you notice any difference in either power or fuel economy?

I cant say because I have used it since day one of buying the car...so nothing to compare it with. The reason I have used it is because my previous car was a V8 Jag and I was advised that high octane fuel was needed...or at least recommended. I was also told that high octane fuel is good for the protection and efficiency of the engine. I have no proof that that's the case but I'm prepared to believe it.

regards.

Mike.
