just got a vagcom cable

Featured Replies

Ok, so I got a orange spring light on the dash and limp mode a month ago. Pulled over and when I restarted, all was fine and has been since.

I got a diagnostic reader off of eBay, but it would not read the car, so I got a vag com cable. I have done an autoscan and most is okay.

The log is as follows (apologies for the odd formatting on pasting with a tablet device, I have tried to show the faults)

00-Steering Angle Sensor -- Status: OK 0000

Every time you cycle the ignition the ECU goes through a self check, and then starts monitoring the various systems on your car. If a fault is deemed to be a "glitch" and does not reoccur over a set time then it can,not always depending on the severity and type of fault detected be dropped from the memory. Most things that effect emissions are stored and most things that will drop the car into limp home mode and put the fault light on are stored but its not a perfect rule.

Also what software version are you running i am guessing an older hooky version if purchased from Ebay???

the disc came with several different ones. I tried one that would not talk to my canbus. in the end I am using release 908.0

That's a knock-off cable - surprised to see Amazon supporting its sale. I bet it came with warnings about not connecting to the internet to update it as it would lock out. Sign that the software has been hacked.

Sign its dodgy? Not paying the full £250 VCDS price is a pretty good clue first. ;)

Just reported that Amazon page to Rosstech shocking that its actually being shipped by amazon themselves.

no, no warnings etc at all. the seller was called ‘xxxxxxxxxx', who I thought was the supplier. £250! I thought I had bought a top end one, as it was more expensive than the ebay ones....

Sellers name removed

The only genuine suppliers are listed here: http://www.ross-tech.com/distributors.html

If it didn't cost near £250, its a fake. I wouldn't personally let a hacked version of the software write to my car, that could cost far more than a real cable.

Still saving up for mine, though.

Just read all the reviews and they seem good for what I need it for its a bargain at that price ordered ......

Cheapest option is around £210 for the CAN version

So you've potentially saved yourself a couple hundred quid (for now) and you're happy to plug a cable with software thats been messed about with , from an unscrupulous source into your pride and joy ?

You must be brave

You must be brave

One has to wonder what "support" will be given if it screws the car up.

Or what will be said if it's found that there is an issue and and update is needed.

Such bravery could well be rewarded with a bricked car.

At the price a genuine fully up to date with back up cable costs its a no brainer. We tried to code in a towbar module on a spanking new Jetta a while back sent a log file off and within 3 hours BOSH new update allowed us to do it now thats service.

It makes me wonder how this can be done all with no subs and the threat of cloned cables pinching food from their table.

so please even if it takes a little more time buy genuine and have confidence that it will do the job safely and properly.

Gentlemen, thank you for the support comments. We do appreciate your support for our genuine products.

As to Amazon, believe it or not, they are more difficult to deal with in getting the clones off their sales than eBay is.... Huh? Yeah, go figure. Seems all they care about is the almighty buck and they also figure they are big enough that our threats to sue are idle threats.... they'll find out eventually.

And then they will plead, "we didn't know..." the Nuremburg defense.

Ah the joys of having a good product!

Bruce, that is probably THE understatement of the year. The VCDS package is awesome,i have Dec,Bosch KTS,Launch amongst others and VCDS not only out performs them in many many ways it also has no yearly update costs!!!!!!!!!!!

Not wishing to cause any issues here but all the people who i have talked too and about VCDS in my area would gladly pay for updates as the tool is simply the best goodness knows what it's potential could be with more investment?

So from my point of view i will gladly shout from the rooftops about your product and at the same time condemn anyone who buys a cheap cloned copy. Keep up the good work.

laldog, we certainly appreciate your understanding but many still feel what we do is "too expensive". We preach value... but value is relative to each person who considers the buying equation. Sadly many do not see the value you see because they do not have the other tools and they want something for nothing. "After all, all I want to do is read codes. Why can't you make a lower cost unit just to read codes." and on and on.... Our goal is to remain the best bang for a quid one can get.. was that Brit e'nuff mate? hehe

Ha ha yeah nice touch! I understand what you are saying and you are always going to get the i can get it cheaper at all costs types.

Just one thing though, make a bluetooth version and i will have your babies!!!!! Ha ha.
