Warning lights

Featured Replies

Driving along yesterday, switched on the cruise...

Glanced at the radio when I looked back the CC, ABS and ESP were all lit.

Road was quiet so I quickly shut off the engine, back on, blip the throttle and merrily I continued.

Lights were all off. There was no bong, and not a shiver or hint of a problem from the way the car drove. It hasn't repeated either it's been perfect since.

Just a battery wobble?

I take it the TPM light wasn't lit then?

Yes it was actually I forgot about that one

Sounds like a wobble from one of the ABS sensors, since the car uses these for TPM, ABS and ESP then all three go if there's any issue with the sensor. I had the same in the middle of a drive although all three stayed on for me, occasionally they would be off when I started the car but would come on within a couple of minutes and when reading up on it I did come across threads where the lights had come on briefly then not again. I guess not much you can do anyway and if the lights come on do a scan to see what the car thinks is wrong with the ABS sensor.

hopefully just a sensor on it's way out then. My first panicked thought was "F*** TEEVES".

Yes, that was exactly my first thought as well! I think if it's the infamous failure in the traction control unit it's only the traction warning light that comes on but if it's an ABS sensor that fails then you get the TPM and ABS lights as well. In my car's case it was the ABS ring had corroded on the rear left wheel which needed a new hub but thankfully not an expensive job and working fine since then.
