Common vRS problems?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Someone put this vRS up on Gumtree earlier and I'm going to have a look at it later on. I passed my test yesterday so insurance will be high regardless, but I'm hoping to save on fuel and tax to balance it (otherwise I'd've gone for a Mk1 Polo or something). However, I've never bought a car before, I have enough to buy and insure it, but I'm curious to know what any common problems with the old 1.9 vRS are?

I'll obviously be doing an HPI check (through Parkers? Or is there another place that's linked to Briskoda I can use?) but aside from that, kicking the tyres (hahaha) and driving her around, I'm not sure what else to do. Is there anything major I should look out for?

Thanks guys :)

If you know anyone with VCDS, take them along and scan it for fault codes. I think you can also check the genuine mileage with it. Looks like a decent tidy example on paper.

Check the Fabia 1 forum - quite a few common problems that can be easily checked for

The 130's are pretty good engines, coming from a person who has had the 150 im well aware.

As said it would be good to Vagcom it when you see it but request that its started from cold, this highlights the DMF failure, although this can be heard most of time it is more noticeable when cold.

It was recommended on the 150's that the oil be changed every 6k, i dont think its as important with the 130's but it shows a sign of a careful owner.

You need to take someone with you who his Au Fait with TDI engined cars, especially if its your first foray into car buying. I just don't like the idea of a green youngster buying a Pup and costing many £££££'s in repair bills later on.
