Looking to buy a fabia VRS

Featured Replies

hello, newish to the forum! looked about for a hot hatch for a short time went to look at 500 abrath, clio cub etc , looked at a polo GTI and a fabia VRS , polo didnt do it for me as its just a mini golf gti, IMHO driving about with a big banner saying "I CANT AFFORD A GOLF GTI" whereas the VRS fabia isnt trying to be anything its not, was very happy with its looks and interior but didn't get a test drive as they didn't have any road registered ones in :( so going in 2weeks time to have a go, would you guys recommend one? Any optional extras i should go for? Got about £11k budget so not brand new but a 11 or 61 plate, want a 61 as thats when headlights an grill changed! any advice appreciated :)

  • what are the details of the CTHE engine with a problem?

Bezzard yes I'd definately recommend one :) firstly test one out or if one of our legion is being nice they could take you out for a little drive ?

Two weeks for a test drive? Where you based?

Great cars for the money, my local dealer has a 12 plate hatch in black/black wheels etc for £13,495.

What sorta mpg do you get? Not to bothered going to be better than my current car (11mpg)

Expect around 35-37 mpg.

vRS can easily can get 45 mpg plus if you want. and 55 mpg plus if hypermiling, even up to 62 mpg.

around 22-25 mpg down to 16 mpg if having fun.

having just gone from a WRX to a fabia vRS I can say its a fun car (obviously not in the same way as the scoob). Just filled up for the first time and got 35mpg but will admit that wasnt doing my normal every day driving

best car I've ever owned, so much so I getting another!

That mpg sounds good enough to me 16 when thrashing , 33-37 when driving normal(ish) high 40 on a run :D

Like most people with a vrs on here that do town and a few runs you will get mid 30's mpg mostly.

Higher when on a longer run but that's same for all cars.

Hello! Just done some net browsing, theres one on autotrader with 50k miles seems pretty high! On a 60 plate, if i could get them down on price abit what you guys think?

how much? I'm trading mine in (well known on here, and uses NO oil) at 46k on a 60 plate.... looking at one on there at £8900 with 54k on there at £8900... I got £8600 trade in price... I think I did well... to sell mine privatley I'd want more than that.... gimme £10k and you can have mine (with a NEW set of black alloys thrown in ;) )

The one with 50,000 (54,000) has been looked at and talked about on here.

There are vRS all over the country and available at much less than the advertised asking prices.

'Asking Prices' are just that, Cash is King.

Thing is, some are ones that have been owned by members here and rejected, some are Skoda buy backs repaired and should be OK now.

Thats what you need to ask and research.

A long oiginal warranty is required, or an extended warranty and find out what past warranty work has been done.

Nowt wrong with a good 46,000 mile one with an extended warranty,

maybe better than a 10,000 mile one with only 6 months Skoda Warranty.

I can sell you for much cheapness compared to some advertised ones, a 2010 plate first vRS with 18,000 miles which had a rebuilt engine & is perfect.

Thing is, Warranty no longer valid with Skoda.

So i wouldnt if i was you. (I will keep it in the family because finding good used ones are a lottery.)

Buyer beware,

a new engine one, a rebuilt engine one or a good engine one, you decide.

Warranty coverage will be the most important thing.

Some nice ones there that will sell for £10,000 or less, i see a Blue with White roof that is maybe familiar on here.

Nice Black low mileage one.

so just on here 100 vrs fabia showing under auto, and the white one under Semi-auto

(rear sensor missing in the picture, a bit of a shiny valet on its interior)

*now 99 autos showing a 1 semi auto

I would either buy new or wait until the new engine filters through into your price range. You could get a good one, a bad one or an indifferent but expensive to run one judging by the various threads on here. Certainley don't buy without one hell of a cast iron warranty that lasts as long as you expect to keep the car.

I hear the new engine is going to be a 1.6 Turbo (sans blower) according to autocar. I guess the twincharge was just too exotic for customers. I love the latter engine but if anything should go pop...

So is there 2 different engines? when did it change over?

And a rebuild after 18k?! Sounding like i may change my mind now haha

No.

Lots of the Skoda Dealership Demonstrators full spec options,

registered first on 29/7/2010 or 1/08/2010 ish had engine rebuilt at around 5,000 miles and have been perfect ever since.

(i have 2 rejects, my daily driver was rebuilt at 4500 miles and is now at 18,000 miles)

Ordered a new Twincharger Ibiza Cupra and get it soon. i like the 1.4 tsi with DSG very much.

(just can not be bothered dealing with any Skoda Dealerships in Scotland. or them with me. lol not)

Some of the first 2010 Demonstrators sold to customers at around 3,5000 miles, then rejected for high oil usage etc.

So they are at least 2 owners already if anyone is looking at used vRS, (Cupra, Polo, A1's)

Then after that, a bit of a lottery, good, bad, fixed etc.

They can be a really good bargain.

Then after or at the time of UK launch August 2010, many good ones, well i think there are.

New version of engines delivered late 2012.

So is there 2 different engines? when did it change over?

'same' engine, just modified to (try and) avoid the oil issues, couldn't tell you the build week t changed over, think it is engine code CTHE now as opposed to the older CAVE

Hmmm, this doesnt sound good! So what causes the excessive oil use ?

Hmmm, this doesnt sound good! So what causes the excessive oil use ?

If I new that I would be an engineer at VAG, think it is something to do with the way the petrol is injected under high pressur as a v.fine vapour stripping the oil from the bores but I could be talking out of my harris.

Bezzard, That is the question never answered to customers of Skoda/VAG.

Waiting for some legal action in this country to get answers, looks like Skoda are just fixing cars now.

They really need to extend Warranties for those owners tho.
