Unmarked Octy M6 Toll

Featured Replies

I am travelling regularly up to Liverpool and back at the mo, and I saw that an unmarked silver Octy vRS had pulled a Beamer (ha ha!!) over just at the start of the M6 toll Northbound. So watch out, as it is sooooo easy to creep up to the ton or so on that road......

just the ton ;-)

Can the M6 Toll road be classed as a private road, Because you have to pay for the privilage of going on it....Therefore do they (the owners or the road) have to stick by the national speed limit or could they Increase it to what they want (nothing silly)... Just a thought!!

Would be nice if they did, followed an Audi S4 at 120 for a little while (not racing, just cruising), and it was so easy, and so safe with hardly anyone else around. Not sure Plod would have agreed though!!!

Not especially hot on Traffic stuff to be honest, but... a public place includes any place to which the general public have access whether by payment or otherwise...

Suppose that doesn't really help answer the question though!

i was told that the police have no powers on the m6 toll unless they are requested to police it (which i think the toll people have to pay for)

Sounds right to me.

The bad news is they have, as far as I know, requested it and are paying for it. I wonder what percentage of the toll fee ends up going to the police.

well from when i was at college they said it costs 60k per year to buy a police man for a 40 hour week, so two police men and a traffic car is easily 150k per year!!!!!

is that right? I thought the toll road was still classed as a motorway and therefore still has a 70mph limit....

The M6 Toll is regulated just like any other motorway and the speed limit is 70mph.

I've seen that silver Octy on all the motorways around Birmingham - M5, M6, M42...

I know I legally take learners who are under 17 without licences into clumber (national trust property) and checked, that because it's private property , and you have to pay and buy a ticket to gain access, then it's not a public road, and not national highways, however the freely accessed road through the middle (lime tree avenue) IS a national highways road. a supermarket carpark though IS classed as a public place and can be policed the same!! (Not if you had to drive in through a barrier on the RIGHT hand side of the road though... have you seen the carparks where you drive in on the right and leave on the left? they are private property, and the ones where there are onle ONE lane in and out [driveway to your house ect]), so the toll road? I would guess it's listed as national highways,(and therefore policed normally, prolly part of it's planning permission!) but gonna talk to my copper friend to find out for sure!

Here's a little something I posted in this thread

"Statutory Instrument 2003 No. 2188

The M6 Toll (Speed Limit) Regulations 2003

hmmm thought that to be the case, specifically stated.......
