Octavia 1.9TDI timing belt fitting guide.

Featured Replies

Anybody know of any step by step fitting guides for a 2002 1.9 tdi engine (nonPD)??

I have done my cambelts several times based on Haynes and this guide which is based on the 110 mk4 Golf.

For my car I use a 5.5mm (iirc) drill bit as a locking pin and fabricated my own tensioning tool. Physically removing the engine mount can be a right PITA, so I have always cheated and as I was changing the water pump at the same time, I passed the belt and the engine mount using the water pump hole.

You are meant to replace some of the engine mount bolts. I didn't the first time around, but I did on my last belt change.

Thanks for the link matey, job now done.

If anybody is going to be doing their TDI belt (ASV engine), it can be done with no special tools other than a home made tensioner tool, the auxiliary belt tensioner can be left in situ & the engine mount is a pain in the rump & doesn't appear to be able to come out once all bolts are removed, belt can easily be passed behind it though.

My recently bought car was 20000 miles past the recommended change interval!

It took me about three and a half hours all in. 20 mins of that was due to one of the four crank pulley allen bolts rounding off.

Mine in back at my parents, I'll see if I can get my Dad to take a picture of it, and provide a few measurements.

note: ignore Mr Haynes who suggests a pair of circlip pliers might do the job.
