Plastidip...... Enough said

its all about the prep.

lightly sand it all and use etching primer and then paint it

And after you have shaken it some more place it in the sink filled with hot water for 5mins then shake some more.

Only trouble with plastidip is its matt black. I want mine black magic to match the car. So I need etching primer and not plastic primer I was going to get lol?

Mine was etch primed and done gloss black to match. It soon chips like there's no tomorrow. Plasti dip or vinyl wrapping is the only way to go IMO as mine now looks crap after a year

Read somewhere about someone lacquering over the plasti dip, to good effect apparently. Maybe an option if you want gloss?

+1 on warming the can up too. I just put mine on the radiator lol obviously making sure it didn't get toooo hot

Mine was done DIY and still looks reasonable 2 years on. Surely the best way is to get it done by a pro? Hardly cost a fortune and it'll be the right colour not a random mis match

People are saying etch primer, so I take it that's preferred over plastic primer ?

Also, how much do I have to sand the grill before prime ? I assume the more the chrome appearance is reduced, the better the primer sticks?

Got spray cans from my local dealer of corrida red + laquer for the paint though.

Nice one guy’s, it's been well prepped. I tried normal primer, plastic primer both have chipped looks like most are in favour of platidip going to go down this route next.

I used normal gloss black aerosol in several layers and it chipped off to show chrome underneath within a week - even with a good sanding, etch primer and lots of laquer.

I've been wanting to do it again using plastidip so I bought some last week and decided that as it was matt black I was going to laquer over the top of it to get it glossy.

I'll post the results in here when I do it, hopefully during the coming week.

Iirc there was very little chrome left when I painted mine. Get as much off as possible will be a bonus

As mentioned remove as much as the chrome as you can! Mine had chipped twice since I painted it last may. I've decided that I'm going to carbon wrap it as it will be longer lasting and the carbon wrap allows room for some error where as a gloss wrap doesn't!
