Issues with Fabia

Featured Replies

Alright lads, i'm having a bit of a mare with our lasses Fabia.

Allsorts been going wrong but thing i'm having chew with now is ECU related.

Battery was goosed so I've put a new one on, now when i've started it today the battery light was back on.

I've drove it back home and then the power steering failed and the ABS light came on. When i've pulled over the car wont even try and startup and all displays go off.

The battery isn't dead though and displays come back on when I turn the key back.

I've down a OBD can and attached the file with the results.

Can anyone have a look at this and maybe point me in the right direction?

Cheers

No file attached

Well Ross Techs Wiki will help point you in the right direction. You need to set upon the battery with a multimeter to see whether it's being charged correctly. A battery will be around 12v when at rest, and be between 13-14v when being charged.

Your description sounds to me like the battery is not receiving a proper charge. Wiring would be my first bet, followed by the alternator.

Check the smaller thin wire from the alternator for a break/corrosion,this will not be hard to find.

Thats a prehistoric version of VCDS you're using, why not download a more upto date copy the scan could well be a bit more revealing

Ok, the car is stuck outside my parents at the minute so i've been over and tested a few things.

Battery voltage is 12v as expected.

When i try and turn the car over now it wont even entertain starting up (all the electronics just die), yesterday it was firing over then after a few minutes it would just die.

To me this is indicating a dead short or fault to ground somewhere, do you guys think i'm right in thinking this?

I've checked out the wiring loom from the alternator and it looks ok (no obvious breaks or corrosion).

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Fabia I so I can start testing a few things?

Cheers

You can get wiring diagrams at erWin Skoda.....

You are looking for the battery symbol on the dash before the car is started. See here-
