Fabia Power Steering

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Fabia 1.9 SDi - 2000 year.

The engine is chipped with a Tunit 1 kit and it makes a hell of a difference.

I have a problem:

The power steering indicator light comes on occassionally, when on there is very little assistance.

Then it will stay off for several days, during which time the assistance is either as standard or super effective.

I have heard that the power assistance is electric & not hydraulic. If it is electric, the car has the original battery, which is near the end of its life, could this be the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Richard

Welcome to Briskoda. :) The PAS is electro-hydraulic, ie it uses a hydraulic pump powered by an electric motor. Hopefully one of our resident experts will be able to offer advice shortly.

Thanks for this.

Hi

It could be a couple of things the main one is the Sensor.

Called a yaw sensor.

These are common for failure.Especially on the earlier ones.

You would need to have a diagnostic check to find this out.

But that would tell you.The said part has been superceeded so it should not happen again.

The second is the fluid level.

It is worth getting both checked out.

With your car being out of warranty it could be worth going to a specialist as this would save you money.

Oh yes and welcome to the site.

Good choice of forum!!!
