Dealership Dullness - Whinge Ahoy

Featured Replies

Took my dirty, battered, but beautiful 56 plate Roomster 3 (84k on the clock) to the highly rated local dealer, Derek Slack. A nice dealership with nice staff but I was alarmed by the lack of decent, reasonable priced replacement Roomies on offer... and what they had... oh my giddy aunt.

There was a nice 1.2 TSI (85bhp) S on a 12 plate.. but I didn't realise that the S didn't have:

  • Seat pockets on the back of the front seats.
  • No glove compartment door
  • No door on the compartment above the glove compartment
  • Cup holders on the back of the middle seat
  • No under the front passanger seat bin (I'm guessing)

I know it's all piddly stuff, but it's basically all our storage and nothing can be hidden away anymore. Obviously, I expected things like cruise control, climate control, panoramic roof etc. to be missing, but it just struck me how skimping on £50 worth of kit makes shopping for cars such a dismal experience.

Finally, my experience was topped off by the dealer only offering me £2000 :( for my Roomster.

I don't know about the seat pockets or glove compartment area, but the cup holders on the middle back seat should be able to be rectified by getting a middle seat from a breaking Roomster. There are a couple nearly complete Roomies on ebay at the moment with some nasty shunts but the inside parts look like new. Under passenger seat, and for that matter, under drivers seats, i think it's theskodashop.co.uk which sells originals for under £15 each and they're not too much trouble to fit.

stupidly low price though - I'd pay 2 grand happily to buy a car like that.

Interesting take, thanks.

Another general car dealer offered me £2800, so looks like I'm getting a Seat Altea.. with a view to approach the Roomster market in a year or two when the models with the newer engines are starting to be affordable.

In relation to the above posts, I retro fitted a LHD storage bin under the drivers seat in my Roomster to increase the 'out of view storage' space.

I haven't needed to do the passenger seat as mine already has the box, have been thinking of getting the bin under the drivers seat but was hesitant as i heard it may involve disconnecting airbags and whatnot.... Myth or fact?

Shouldn't do. It is easier to fit if you remove the seat which IIRC is an M12 Spline bit x4. There is a push coupling connector on the bottom of the seat for airbags and or heated seats if you have them.

You can lay the seat back once 'unscrewed' from the floor pan without disconnecting these wires as long as you're careful not to strain the connections.

If you do decide to do the mod I think you need an additional (T20??) torx screw (3 in total) to affix it with whereas the blanking bit is held with 2.
