I realise this is relative and contentious but i would just like to get a feel for peoples opinions.

I personally miss my old Octavia Mk1 how it handled and the power delivery simple but effective

however things have to move on and i now like my MK2's. However i have heard quite a few people

singing the praises of the 4X4 with its tunability and haldex options etc. Anyway feel free to expand on

your reasons. Sorry if this has been done before but i did search first. :hi:

I know title is a bit misleading i realise not everyone wants the same thing out of a car but it you look at the Poll Title

it does say performance skoda's. If you think i have missed one that deserves a spot im happy to edit the poll.

Ah, indeed then I was somewhat misled by the thread title vs poll title.

In both categories I would have said Octy MKII L&K 2.0: all the toys and all the potential of a vRS.

(I think my next move will the L&K and a remap)

hmm not sure if that qualifies as a performance car (standard) does it have the same suspension geometry and brakes etc. its not all about the engine. The looks and performance are important consideration. I think if i add that then its really just a special edition of the octavia i really should be adding the standard octy as thats equally tuneable no? I only put the 4x4 in because i feel that 4x4 is a large performance advantage. I don't think skoda ever wanted it classed as a performance vehicle to rival the VRS neither would they say the L&K is in this group. Although i take your point it does have lots of toys and a nice car. But then do i put the monti-carlo in aswell all the looks of a hot hatch and potentially tuneable but those rear brakes and lack of performance as standard make me think the fabia VRS should be the obvious choice. Its a difficult one where do i stop?

Pffft! Wheres the Yeti 4x4 1.8TSi option?!

I voted for the Mk1 Octavia 4x4 - a very capable all weather Q car with just a few tweaks. :)

Sorry im sure its a very capable motor and i have considered getting one myself but it just doesn't fall

into my narrow minded view of a 'performance car' thanks for your vote though i agree with your choice btw.

P.S. It would be helpful if a mod or admin could change the title to the same as the poll title please.

....remove the letters R V and S from the choices? ;)

Maybe a definition of what is a "performance" car.

The looks are subjective, so people will have different opinions. (Personally I think the Roomster was designed by two blindfolded four-year olds. Others obviously think differently about that or that the looks are not important - afterall you can't see the car when you're behind the wheel)

Performance: There are facts and figures about that. (on 0-62 the 140PS diesel is only 1.2 secs behind the 170PS vRS, and max's out 9mph less (131 vs. 140 mph), but returns better fuel economy. (Reference: https://tools.skoda.co.uk/brochure_octavia.pdf )

So, on paper, the vRS isn't that much quicker than the L&K, as standard. Where do you draw the line between performance and ordinary? The L&K is a performance car compared to the 1.6. The 1.6 0-62 is 11.9 (almost double the difference between L&K and vRS) and the 1.6 tops out at 105mph. 26mph, that's nearly three times the difference compared to vRS vs L&K. By this definition is the L&K a performance model?

In terms of performance, yes the L&K is a step behind the vRS, but it's not a very big step.

Pricewise:

L&K £22,820

vRS £21,070 Difference of £1,750 in favour of the vRS, but that that gets swallowed up by speccing such nice things as HID (standard on the L&K)

{Yes, list prices quoted, so they can come down by negotiation, but there has to be a reference point.}

Personally, 2.0 L&K, easy, new or "pre-loved". Happy to pay for the extras and lose all that "extra" performance.

Power and luxury. :)
