It was partially my fault.

I missed the chicane and being in the Yeti just kept my foot down and went off across the grass.

The two Fabias behind were following me rather than the track.

As they now tell you in the briefing (which they didn't then) the run off road has what looks like a wall, but it has spaces for cars when you get much closer.
