Rear suspension - doesnt look right to me

Featured Replies

Now i had a chance to have a look under the car at the weekend and was looking at the rear suspension. To my untrained eyes it looked like a solid back axle, so that left and right move up and down together. So i'm then thinking why on earth are people thinking of uprating the suspension with such antiquated design.

Now the guide at the top of the forum quotes,"a compound-link crank axle with torsion stabiliser at the rear". What does it mean????

Does anyone have any decent photos or any pictures showing proof!

It means that the back axle does twist.. it aint as good as independant rear suspension, but youll find every small car has this, and most the size up to (apart from golf mk5 chassis and the crocus)

Most big cars have this kind of axle, including the Superb.

whats bad about it? i thought the fabia was a very good handaling car for when it was out in 00,01,02 hence the 3 car of the year awards  still being class leading....end of the day seems fine to me!

Suspension is very soft and "bouncy", has a lot of body roll and has very little steering feel! Oh, and it pitches and dives under acceleration and braking ;)

IMHO, the car's handling with Eibachs should have been how it came out of the factory, more composed on the road without sacrificing the ride quality.... :D

Having seen its had good reviews and people are raving about it, it just miffed me at the time thinking have people been fooled?

So it is one piece, but the V section beam joining left and right is designed to flex? so that acts like an anti roll bar? Hmm thought a V section was quite stiff, gonna have to do some calculations.

Here's one reviewer who wasn't fooled...
