Hi all

I have an '03 1.9tdi estate and have the stuck headlamp adjuster problem on the driver's side.

I managed to buy a replacement headlamp via fleabay but unfortunately the carrier's handling was so gentle they managed to break five pieces of the unit :( Seller was superb and gave a full refund but still no headlamp.

I won a full set of front lamps from a seller in Brum but didn't realise until I got them home the connectors were different, as are the levellers. These came from an '00 car.

I'm hoping all I have to do is find a set of connectors/wiring from an earlier Octy and splice them in to my harness.

Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions?

I have a stuck adjuster too. I just live with it and have the lights adjusted for the cars normal load (me + passenger).

These are almost identical in shape with only minor moulding differences. Plastic lenses not glass, although the lens in held on with clips rather than bonded on.

Update; the electrical connectors are identical, I was just brain-fried the first time I checked them over. The mouldings for the lamps are slightly different, the adjusters are mounted in a different place and the lens is held on by clips but as far as I can tell the units are actually interchangeable. I will check this on the car when I get a chance.

Does anyone know if there's any functional differences between the pre '00 and '01-'04 headlamps, or they just made a little differently?

I did a further check on the lenses and they are in fact glass, so my apologies to mbames who was correct in his description.

I've decided to be brave and have a go at swapping the levelling motor with one I rescued from a carrier-damaged headlamp.
