I've just done the first scan of my brand new vRS estate and one fault was found in Cent. Elect.:

1 Fault Found:

03156 - Sensor for Anti-Theft System (G578)

004 - No Signal/Communication

Does anybody know what the problem could be? Should I just clear the code and see if it reoccurs?

Thanks :)

Personally I'd take it back to the seller and say the alarm doesn't work.

Clear it and see if it comes back, if not then all is well.

Yup that seems to be the problem. Just noticed that the central locking LED is staying on for 30 seconds after the car is locked. If I temporarily disable the internal sensor with the button on the driver's door, the LED starts flashing straightaway. I'll check the connection on the ultrasonic unit and if that doesn't work it's a trip to the dealer.

The Skoda manual says this:

Indicator light in driver's door on vehicles with anti-theft alarm system

After locking the vehicle the indicator light flashes for 2 seconds fast, then more slowly.

If the vehicle is locked and the safe securing system (page 45) is not operating, the indicator light in the drivers doors flashes for about 2 seconds fast, goes out and starts to flash slowly after about 30 seconds.

If the indicator light first of all flashes for about 2 seconds, afterwards lights up for about 30 seconds and then flashes slowly, there is a fault in the system of the central locking or interior monitor, (page 51). Visit a specialist garage to obtain assistance.

It was indeed the ultrasonic unit - all is now well.

Mikez hasn't been online for almost a year so you probably won't get a reply.

You should make sure that the ultrasound sensors for the alarm sensor are plugged in. At least on a MK2 Octavia these should be behind the three vents in the sunglasses holder or blanking panel next to the front interior light.

If they are connected and clean, you might need to replace the module assuming the wiring is correct and undamaged.

I took it into the dealer (with it being a new car) and they replaced the ultrasonic unit. Twice, in fact, because the first replacement was faulty, too, and showed exactly the same symptoms within 2 days.

I then just cleared the fault in VCDS.

Still lurking now and again :)
