What does this button do?

Featured Replies

After a month of ownership (Octy 2 2.0TDi Ambiente), I have just noticed a little button in the door pillar on the driver's side. The symbol on it has a car with some soundwaves coming down to it. I can get it to light up occasionally, but it doesn't seem to do anything! I have looked in the manual and can't see a reference to it. Anyone know what the button does?

Anything to do with reversing sensors?

PS: See below. It isn't.... :(

I expect it disables the interior alarm sensors so you can leave a child/dog in the car. My new style A3 used to have two there, another one to disable the tilt sensor.

Yeah, it's to disable the alarm's ultrasonic sensors.

The manual mentions it is used to disable interior sensor and also the tilt sensor for towing.

Auto Destruct?

It looks like the one you have disables interior alarm sensors. If there is better alarm, there would be also another button for disabling tilt sensor.

If you want to use it, open the door, press the button (it should change the colour of the light), then get off, close all doors and press the remote control button to lock the car. Interior sensors should not work at this moment. After you reopen car, it will reset and everything is back to normal.

Same procedure for tilt sensor should work as well, you can also disarm both sensors simultanously (if you have both).

Does anyone know where the internal sensors are located on the Elegance version?

I think they are situated behind the vertical slots on the sunglasses holder.
