Gear whine on deceleration

Featured Replies

Hy guys would like some opinion I have a 57 plate vrs and have discovered it has gear whine only as far as I can tell on deceleration and only in 1st or 2nd gear it doesn't do it from cold well not that I can tell but after the car has warmed up and I am concerned?

Any thoughts or recommendations are most welcome

Get the gearbox oil changed see if that makes a difference.

Have you had or considered getting the oil changed in the transmission ?

george

Using the correct gearbox oil when changed has cured a lot of problems with cars on here :)

Guys that's fab I'm looking to get a service done ASAP as the last service was the cambelt change at 55k now on 64k

How much does it cost to have transmission oil changed?

I was quoted £40

Grizzle where were you quoted £40 as I've been quoted £108?

Quite a simple job to do yourself, there are plenty of tutorials on youtube (mainly on VW cars but essentially the same)

£108 sounds expensive to me, have you tried an independent garage? Although £40 might be too cheap.

Thread revival! I've just bought a 57 plate vrs that does the same. Is it just a common whine on these that causes no harm? Or have people quietened there's down by replacing the gear oil? Thanks Olly

This is quite common on these gearbox. I have posted similar question some time back nothing to worry about.

Perfectly normal; especially first gear. Mine has done it for 3 years with no issues. It's actually louder since I fitted an uprated dogbone (gearbox) mount.

I thought this was a normal gearbox noise. Glad to see its nothing to worry about
