Engine/Clutch problems?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 53 plate Fabia vRS lately I've noticed that when accelerating the revs rise up before the car speeds up but... there's always a but...

This only seems to happen in 4th gear. For example I will be driving along in 4th at say 40mph I start to accelerate (not harshly) and the revs will peak over 2000rpm then sharply rise to almost 2500rpm then will drop back down to about 2100rpm where it probably should be... I have looked for this in all gears and speeds etc to see if this happens in any other gears but haven't seen it in anything other than 4th.

It doesn't seem to always happen either, occurring maybe a couple of times a week is this an issue? I have the most shockingly cheap and nasty tyres from the previous owner :-( which need replacing any chance its them?

I already have a long list of things that need doing like boost pipe, egr valve and I really don't want to add a clutch to this list...

thanks in advance!

i have pretty much the same problem with my 53 plate vrs, although it happens in all gears apart from 1st and 2nd, and only occasionally like yours or when the car is loaded, pretty sure its the clutch unfortunately, there goes £300. How many miles has yours done??

That's sounds like clutch slip.

It will happen in higher gears as the engine has to work harder to increase speed of the car the faster you're already going.

Better tyres will probably make the clutch slip worse, as there will be more grip at the other end of the chain.

Basically the more force you're trying to overcome, the more the clutch is likely to slip.

Thanks for your replies guys! (y) Its just today hit 70k will, I didn't think that would be enough to warrant a clutch change unless it was driven really badly before ha ha. I knew I needed better tyres that's just going to have to wait the brakes are knacked at the moment I cant really use the hand brake... :( Doh why does it always come at once?

Clutch slip defo..
