Hello all,

I am after a gps/stereo unit upgrade for my 57 octavia, I've looked into the cheaper options and my parking sensors would not work with these units. Would anybody know if a rns 510 would slot in and work on my car giving me full functions on the steering wheel and parking sensors.......or is my car to old to upgrade ? Any unit part numbers to suit or general advice would be greatly appreciated....thanks Jay

A Columbus would work (Skodas RNS 510) but without some fairly complicated rewiring/module changes you'll lose your parking sensor and climatronic displays. Also you may need a canbus module upgrade to prevent battery drain etc. Most people deal with the canbus upgrade but are prepared to lose the other displays, after all the earlier cars give you a digital temp read out and the parking sensors still beep.

There are a number of people who have installed later ICE units to pre facelift cars and am sure they can offer suitable advice.

Can I find out what CAN gateway revision is in my car with vcds ? I'm thinking if its revision K or later I could go with any 2nd hand unit and the power drain won't be an issue and cheaper too. Thanks for the help Mike. Jay

2nd hand columbus arrives next week is there any guides to fitting it as i'm not a VCDS expert, a brief outline would be very welcome ?
