Security Query...

Featured Replies

I requested all-door locking once the car reaches 15? MPH, however once static - but with the engine running, all doors remain locked from the outside. This has been initiated by the Dealer.

My query:- If the vehicle is involved in an accident - and the occupants are unconcious - and the airbags have deployed...will the door locks automatically disengage...? (Allowing external assistance)

Feedback appreciated.

Yes, I've read in the handbook that the doors will automatically unlock when involved in any collision

Yes, the doors will all unlock in the event of the airbags being deployed. The hazard flashers will also turn on automatically, so there will be no issues with emergency services getting access.

If you enable the auto locking, then the doors will lock and then will not unlock until the key is removed from the ignition, or the internal door pull operated twice.

all doors will unlock when the airbags go off

It used to be a trick in the early days of airbag-equipped cars that a good smack where the G sensor was placed (BMWs specially, I think) would allow the car to open. OK, the airbags would go off, but if they were stealing the car that wouldn't be an issue...

I think they designed that "feature" out some time ago though..

I wouldn't worry the emergency services will get in regardless

This was the case with my MkI but not my MkII...should this happen with the MkII?

I'm sure mine opens if you pull the handle twice when inside. The automatic lock is only that - it doesn't engage the deadlocks just locks the doors/boot. That can only happen if you're inside the car and you use the remote to lock. Hence the deadlock warning on maxidot (hate that term) when you take key out of the ignition.
