TOP GEAR Challenge: I was thinking

Featured Replies

Good evening all - I have had a thought albeit inspired by the Top Gear, that this summer a few mates and I would have a limit £200 to buy an old banger (possibly estate - living quarters etc.) then travel to let's say Andorra - sell the car and any money we make on the car goes towards the cost of public transport back. The person who spends the least money, in traditional top gear style wins.

But is it going to be straight forward to sell a UK car in Andorra... Does anybody know if it can be a case of straight swap of cash for car and V5C, then a letter to the DVLA when you get back saying you no longer own the car? Or is there a 'system' or 'process' that makes it near enough impossible.

I've had a search about but can't seem to find anything.

The country doesn't have to be Andorra it is just the whole length of France away!.. Anything challenging European country will do just fine.

why not race to a set place then roll the car down a mountain, and whistle whist sauntering in the opposite direction

Taxi !

Probably easier to set fire to it, and fill out the certifcate of destruction for the DVLA. That doesn't leave much money for public transport though! :D

But in principle sounds like fun! I would like to do the lands end sunset, to east coast before sunrise challenge at some point.

That one does sound good. I've got friends in Lowestoft so I could have a place to crash when I get there :)

Good idea,

purchase a car a take out insurance on it for under £200,

do the trip

'& without claiming off the insurance or anything like that', cancel early the insurance.

That is maybe £50 to buy the car then, for many drivers.
