Nothing to do with drink driving - they work out a risk value for each driver on the insurance. They then achieve their final risk value by taking an average of the risk values.

So, in real world terms, they think that your girlfriend is less likely to have an accident than you - and as she's a named driver, they're going to assume she'll be using the car for a certain percentage of the time. During this time, the car is at a lower risk than if you were driving, so the premium is weighted accordingly...

You'll probably find it would go up if she passed her test - inexperienced driver is a higher risk than a supervised learner!
