Whats hot and whats not for the 2.0tfsi

Featured Replies

Alright people,

Picked a mk2 vrs up for the mrs yesterday and thought instead of searching for hours you lovely folk would point me in the right direction on what's good and what's not so good (mod wise).

Had a mk1 vrs for 4 years and she loved it, after putting up with my different projects and driving a mk4 and clio for a while I thought it was time she had another decent motor. I'm hoping its as good and reliable as the mk1 was, although first impressions are good upto yet.

Cheers

Si

Simple cars dude that don't need alot

Lots will tell you about these amazing intakes etc but reality is there overpriced bits of pipe lol :-)

Nice exhaust and a map will keep you happy for a week lol

Lots of interchangeable bits from golf mk5 gti so lots of tuning options, and loba Motorsport do a hybrid k04 good for just under 400Bhp :)

Oh dont i know it!! ;)

a 3" downpipe will make the biggest noticeable difference, after mapping.

There is a massive choice on CAI's, the most expensive is not always best. ;)

my 02p:

- improve the suspension. good quality dampers/coilovers, rarb makes a huge difference in how quickly you can travel on real roads.

- light wheels. not sure what the zeniths weight but netunes are 13.5kg which is a massive figure. lighter wheels makes the car a lot quicker in my experience.

- once you've done that, stage 1 map (if its a tfsi also do the diverter valve too).

beyond that you're into "diminishing returns" ie you spend a lot more for smaller and smaller benefits, plus any more power and you're looking at a clutch, diff, bigger brakes etc which all adds up.

Award winning engine but can use a bit of oil which isn't cheap. This is not a fault, simply how they are.

This needs to be monitored.

Columbus if it hasn't got one already and BT module. A great way to spend £550-600. Fantastic bit of kit, don't be tempted by the Chinese copies.

Better shocks, not sure what ones but my OEM ones are pretty poor (new OEM as my car had done 100k when I replaced)

New front wishbone bushes will make the car and steering feel tight again if its done over 80k.
