Air release valve in petrol funnel

Featured Replies

Have been getting at most 40 litres of petrol into my VRS when the car tells me is near empty and I was thinking that there was an extra 5 litres still in the tank as its a 45l tank. Been getting 350 miles on average out of it and was reli pleased. Upon filling my car on Thursday I noticed a silver button in the petrol funnel and pushed it with the top on the petrol nozzle and it released air from the petrol tank. To my surprise I managed to get 53l in and have done 110 miles so far and the petrol needle hasn't budged at all :D. Does anybody know if I shouldn't be doing this? Will it cause any problems?

Best not park it up when filling fuller than just brimming. 'Venting'

Then Sit it in the sun type thing and leave no space for what happens naturally with liquid, fumes and temperature changes.

Thank you for the link George. Think I'll stick to the 45l just to be safe :D
