octy vrs mk1 power steering fluid loss :(

Featured Replies

hi folks, moved the octy this morning out of its nice dry warehouse and found a pool of orange(ish) liquid, there is no fluid showing on the power steering dipstick so i assume its dumped it on the floor :(

i havent had a good look underneath as of yet, but wondered if you chaps had any ideas, any known faults?? best place to start looking??

cheers for now ;)

After having my power steering rack replaced last week I learned that the fluid in your power steering should be green.... I would say if you have red in yours thats the reason for failure. It was mine! I hope its not new rack time, but FYI mine was about £450 fitted. The rack itself was £190.

Mine was leaking from the piston in the gaitor, it took 4litres of fluid in 3 days! You might be lucky and it might be just a pipe, but like I said, if its red get it changed!!!!

:( umm doesnt sound good, off to have a look underneath now :)

If it's the high-pressure pipe, then that's about £140 from a dealer too! So that makes the rack look like a relative bargain!

At least it's all pretty easy to work on.

As said, use the green PAS fluid that meets VAG spec (CHF-11S).

I have just developed the same problem so I have replaced with red fluid on Tuesday not knowing the difference and it has lost it all again. Surely that cant be down to the colour of the fluid can it?

My rack went pop on left side. Got a reconditioned unit for 125 with 2 years warranty. Is it definitely green fluid that I put in??
