Main Beam's as reduced power DRL

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some help being a noob on here. I've done a search on here and can't find the info I need.

I want to be able to run my main beam lights as reduced power DRL's. I know that if I wire them in series it will half the voltage to approx 6v (saving the use of a resistor).

What I need to know is do I just need 1 5 pin relay or a couple? Also how can I wire it so the main beam still works as normal and that they go off automatically when I turn on my headlamps.

Is it also worth replacing the main beam bulb with LED's?

Thanks in advance

you would need a relay so when you switch your ignition on the lights come on and then when you switch sidelights etc on they go off .... most people seem to do this with fog lights as most of the time they are unused ....

it would be fairly easy to put led's in as main beam not sure if standard h3's even at half voltage would be abit bright ...

Thanks for the fast reply Holmesie how would that tie in with the main beam flasher? does anyone have a wiring diagram?

Was considering doing this with fog lamps but thought main beam part of headlamps might look better ?

i suppose there would have to be a terminal on the relay for the flasher too ....

the benefit of fogs is that they only use a simple on of switch .

not sure if you can put led strips on anywhere or maybe a separate bulb in the lamp

chaz18 put drls on his vrs maybe worth dropping him a pm
