Heater or Aircon not Working/blowing

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

Over the last week, i noticed that the aircon/heater in the car has been a little noisy, the car has the solar sunroof and i could hear the fan quite loudly over the last week as it was quite sunny. Sometimes it sounded fine, others a little rough and quite loud. The car is due a service at 95K in the next two weeks.

Anyhow, when getting into car yesterday evening after work, i noticed that the fan wasnt working at all, in either econ or auto modes. When i turn the fan up, it doesnt change anything. The usual ambient air is still comming through the air ducts, but nothing that seems to be fan driven.

Im going to get this checked in my next service, but i was wondering does anyone have any advice on this for now, so that i know what im talking about as opposed to getting saddled.

from reading back through the forum, there seem to be loads of problems with this heating/aircon unit, and of course all seem quite varied from resistors to connections to blower motors.

Will Vag com show the fault?

Thanks!

My fan (also a car with solar sunroof) started to get very noisy at only 70,000 miles. I imagine by 100K it would have easily been dead, but the noise was winding me up so I had to change it.

Try changing the fan speed on the control panel - if it doesn't change it could be the fan. I guess it could also be a fuse. I don't think the resistor is related to the fan spinning or not. Chances are if your fan was unduly noisy before it stopped working, it was the fan that has failed. As mine was obviously the fan I didn't bother hooking it up to the diagnostics to see if this trips an error or not.

Cheers Jimbof,

Fan is back working today, albiet very poorly!

i would imagine its definately the Fan, anyone know what a main dealers will charge to replace?

As i recall you need to remove almost all interior dashboarding etc. Cost about a Range Rover.

You sure?

I thought the fan motor can be got at through the glovebox?

Glovebox and passenger airbag out, then it can come out fairly simply.

If you take it to a main dealer, the fan part along is almost £400, without the labour (I nearly laughed to death).

GSF do a compatible for £50, or the original Valeo part for around £100 (you won't find it under Superb, need to look at Passat parts). If you aren't confident to do it yourself an independent probably can do it cheaper. It took me a couple of hours, and I'm not brilliant at this kind of thing.

I do believe the solar roof kills these fans a bit quicker for us...

My bad then.

Cheers gents,

Ii believe the OEM Part number is 8D2820021, Theres varying different ones available. Im presuming tha the valeo ones are the manufacturers of the OEM part, so that would leave the like of this

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Skoda-Superb-Heater-Fan-Blower-Motor-RHD-8D2820021-F664691L-BRAND-NEW-/261185414023?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3ccfdd2387

is the one to buy (if thats actually what the problem is). Now to look up fitting one! Cheers guys.

My bad then.

It might be different location on LHD - not sure.

Had the car in for a service, and Main dealer has quoted me €400 just for the fan, no labour.

the raised concerns with replacing it with a non OEM part, stating that because of the amount of electronics in the car, it may be dodgy replacing with non OEM.

any of you guys have any input, or done this recently? (Jimbof) i want to replace it with the closest to OEM part that i can find, i think jimbof said its a Valeo Part.

Cheers

It is a joke, isn't it!

The original failed part I pulled out of the car is a Valeo part. GSF sold me what as far as I could see was the same Valeo part in a Valeo hologrammed box for just over £100.

I don't know if you have GSF in Ireland. They were really nice here in Norwich, happy to get the two parts out of the warehouse for me to have a look. They don't actually list the more expensive part as a Valeo on their website, so worth checking over the counter if you can to see what it is.

Yeah, we got them here in Ireland also, I'll check them out, thanks Jim!

It is a bit crazy, I don't really fault the dealers I'm dealing with as they are a decent bunch, and they have a database of prices that they use, so I suppose it's the nature of things! But it's very expensive and I would rather put that money towards the engine as opposed the heater!!

Cheers!

Also note they don't list it as a part for Skoda Superb, only as Passat.

Hi did you manage to get the fan replaced?

Only I think mine is making a noise and sometimes doesnt work with the fan speed on full..

As mentioned in the post above I did mine myself, part from GSF was just over £100, vs £400 from main dealer. To be honest, when you see it you think even £100 is way too much money...!

If you have edition 100 then you have solar roof and if you have solar roof I'm pretty sure you will have early fan death as it is running for 10-12 hours a day, every day (unless you garage car in the dark). But of course your fault might be different.

The Brushes are going on mine, temporary fix from garage sorted it out. Its only a matter of time before it F"£$KS UP, but at the minute its working, Quick fix

typical of VAG to decry any part other than theirs most compatibles are good quality nowadays aren't they

As i recall you need to remove almost all interior dashboarding etc. Cost about a Range Rover.

took the glove box out of mine and jiggled it around the airbag 1/2 hour
