A lot of the 4x4 already have a K03s . The Pre 2001 4x4 have K03 only as far as I know.

If this is the case then your should just get your car mapped to take advantage of the Power it can go to. As the 4x4 is set to 150bhp you will benefit significantly on getting the car mapped.

I think even with a k03 the car can be mapped to approx 200bhp

I didnt realise that must have read something wrong somewhere. Mine was registered 27/05/2001 so might have it?

Whats the easiest way to tell. Mine is supposedly chipped but no info on it. Holds 13psi boost nicely and pulls strong

it should be a ko3s

Thats great thanks mate. Will try read off any numbers next time its up in the air. Turborevs smic on its way so another step closer to being setup for a proper remap :)

Not easy to tell unless you can get good access but few ways:

A K03 has 12 turbo fins a K03s has 8.

To see this you will need to remove the Turbo inlet pipe to see this though. That is a pain...

A K03s has a large neck at the end of the turbo(silencer). See these 2 ads of both types.

K03 turbo P/N's (5303 988 0011 or 5303 988 0053)

K03S (5303 988 0052 or 5303 988 0026)

k03s also has slightly larger porting and will max out at 235 ish bhp(apart from very clever mapping), and will hold the power longer up the revs where the 03 has run out of puff.

K03 maz power around 200 bhp

That year you have should be a K03s and if you are running 13PSI then it is mapped.

A uprated intercooler and decent free flowing exhaust can get better mapping results and take you up to around 18+PSI

Mines Nov 2001 and has a KO3s :)

i didnt think they made the 4x4 pre 2001, ergo, all 4x4s had ko3s turbos...i think anyway!

Thats good news. Just paid for a turborevs smic, already got decat to go on so just need exhaust before I am happy with engine for a proper remap :)

Before remap though are bigger brakes and I think golf r32 suspension setup inc arbs that I am hunting down

brakes are a must on the 4x4 as they are only 288mm, you can get the vrs stuff which is 312, quite easily. Or go bigger brake setup, like the leone cupra r setup for about 500 secondhand. They are four pot calipers, and are the business! R32 arbs are a good upgrade too.

the Cat on the 4x4 is not as restrictive as you might think as it is the twin branch type same as the S3, TT225 etc, will easily flow 350bhp, the exhaust is also not too bad. What DOES need to be changed is the downpipe as they are p00p

Its a downpipe and decat I got for mine. Its not for my car but looks like it should go on ok but will be tight between subframe, need tolower the rear of front subframe to fit also

if you are having to drop the subframe its worth looking at the cupra subframe bushes while you have it down. They are a much more solid bush that helps limit the movement from the subframe. (stock ones on the 4x4 are rather soft and they will end up clunking at some point (you can feel/hear it down in the footwells) - especially when remapped etc) I was lucky and managed to bag a cupra subframe complete with cast ower arms and brace bar, easier to change it all over in one go then :D

when I get around to it (i.e. get some customers and hence some cashflow) I am going to get a stainless fabricator to do the Downpipe, if funds allow I would love a full system with fake Cat and remap to suit (stage2 would be nice, with Gentle launch control :D)

...stage2 would be nice...

thought you where set on fuel-economy mode

I'll have a look at them thanks. Hoping I can just drop the back of it by an inch or so on a gearbox jack to give me the space I need. I have got a little clonk but put it down to dogbone mount but will inspect them bushes

What downpipe have you used?

Watch out with any Decat exhausts on a petrol car.

From the 20th March, new MOT regulations came in that state that if a car had a CAT when it left the factory then it must have one at the MOT test, not simply be able to pass the MOT emissions test. The car will now fail the MOT without a CAT fitted when presented for MOT.

Just get a quality sports cat (100 or 200 CEL), it will pass the visual inspection, emissions and the MOT as a result.

Just after a better downpipe not looking to go decat.

i will be stripping my 4x4 in around 4 weeks time

so many bits coming up for sale
