Best long life polish/paint protection product

Featured Replies

Been offered a paint protection product by the dealer but as usual they overcharge and not convinced that the mobile Polish valeters will do a proper job anyway.

So what is the best product to get? Heard good things about G3 Glasscoat and A-Glaze (used that on the boat and it seems to do something) but can't seem to actually buy the full kit for either from any where.

Super guard and Autoglym lifeshine are both available on eBay for around £20but I have no idea if these are any good.

Ease of application is important too. Looking to get something on the car as its flat black with a cloth/leather interior so the fabric protectors also useful.

Any recommendations welcome

Hello Whitelighter, this is a slightly subjective subject as one person prefers one thing and someone else likes something else. But my experience is as follows. When I bought my last new Skoda the dealer offered Supagard at a hugely reduced price. This was to do both the inside and outside of the vehicle. We paid around £150, reduced by just over £110, and the job was carried out by a professional 'Supagard' team franchise (I would guess). We were also given the £40 kit that goes with it. The guys took 4 man hours to do the job. That was two guys working flat out for 2 hours. It was hard work for them and I watch quite a bit of the process during which the car paintwork was fully prepared, washed and dewaxed, then the coating applied. The inside of the vehicle was treated too and included the seats, door fabric and carpets. Then the whole job is guaranteed. The less informed on here don't think the guarantee is worth anything but it is. I had to make a claim when my seat fabric was damaged by some industrial ink and it would not come out. The repairs were carried out under guarantee. But ordinary things like cups of coffee etc just run stay put on the surface of the fabric waiting to be mopped up. It works! The car paintwork, once treated was a treat to wash. Dirt just fell off. Even if not washed for ages. It also give some protection against swirl marks and bird muck, and again works well, and much better than the best polishes I've ever used. And I've used just about all of them as I show motorcycles and win prizes. I would say that Meguires give about the best gloss shine if you use the entire treatment products, but it doesn't last unless you keep it going with more of the same. Supagard will almost shine as good and will stay on the paint beyond 3 years before a reapplication is needed. Basically, whatever you use, you wont' go far wrong these days, but I'm with Supagard!

I had the offer when I ordered mine recently, don't know what the product was but it was £400, I said no thank you, even though I was offered 'up to 50%' back if I trade in there next time. Shame as it sounds good stuff from the above experience.

I can personally vouch for G3 glasscoat.

I have used both diamondbrite and guard-x in the past and found them both to be poor.

The difference is that g3 is a ceramic coating and is a lot more resistant than others available. For example, the bug and tar remover that I use takes off guard-x and other products, however does not touch the g3. Plus it is guaranteed for 5 years!!

Mine cost me £199 fully applied by a company in Nottingham who are absolutely brilliant!

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Ben.

Thanks all.

The G3 does sound good. Is it something I can do myself or us it best to get a pro to apply it?

Anyone know a supplier in Surrey/Hampshire?

Do these have to be applied from new or can they be done later? I guess can be done later but best applied from new.

Have used both "G3 glasscoat" and Autoglym Life-shine.

"G3 glasscoat" you must see a car after the "G3 glasscoat" has been applied , looks stunning

"Autoglym Lifeshine , well this product lives up to its name as does a "Mayfly" ( waste of money )

Thanks all.

Don't have to be applied from new. I had mine put on after I bought it at 16,000 miles. Looks better than when it rolled out the showroom!

G3 glasscoat or C quartz finest are the only two products worth applying, but most importantly it is how the car is prepared before application. For the very best results get a Professional Car Detailer to do it. Done correctly will take a minimum of 6-8 hours. Had mine done & the final result was absolutely stunning. Most garage valeters do not know how to prep & apply properly so is in the end a waste of money.

autoglym, meguiars & blackfire are all good products to use

I had supaguard applied at the dealership when I had my Mk1 VRS and noticed sod all difference inside and out. I wouldn't bother getting it at the dealers, I suspect it's hit and miss with the work quality, find out your best local detailer instead.

You could just buy a tin of Collinite 476 for around £20.00 One polish of two coats lasts around 6 months and the tin lasts years.

Anyone got any re commendations for retailers near Camberley in Surrey?

I would be interested to hear about retailers/fitters that are recommended in the Surrey/Hampshire area too - I have my new VRS on order and would be keen to hear of prices etc for this. Dealer offered it at the 'knock-down' price of £200, but I'm not sure the dealer would actually do a great job...

That's my issue - cant see the dealers valeters doing a proper job so at any price it's a waste of money

The best polish/wax combo I've tried is Carlack 68 topped with Colinite 476s and it is particularly good for black paintwork in my experience. When I got my other car (Fiat 500 Sport in metallic black) the first thing I did was wash and clay it, apply Carlack 68 and then 2 coats of 476s. The result was a deep shine that has lasted for 5 months so far - beading is still excellent and the car is a joy to wash. Thoroughly recommended.

Like Estateman, I've been impressed with the supaguard treatment on my Fabia - 4 years on without any polishing or waxing and the satin grey metallic finish still shines beautifully - practically no scratches or swirls, and easy to wash. The dealer did a good job with mine it would seem, but I know others have been unimpressed with Supaguard and equivalents.

Collinate 476s is awesome stuff! Brings up solid and metallic paints and beads great!

Hi there, yes I have used it for years. I use Collinite 476 in winter (awesome as you say) then Collinite 915 concourse wax in summer and as a quick top up, which it doesn't need but it feeds my insatiable desire for the stuff, I use the liquid Collinite 845. Sad I know but it really does protect and it turns heads too.

The main problem I'd have with the Supaguard would be "4 years without polishing" :o I get withdrawal symptoms if I'm not giving her a regular rub down...the car I mean!
