Head unit Fitting,

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just bought a 2002 1.8 Skoda Octavia estate, and I am looking to replace the standard casette deck radio with my double din Sat Nav, however I cant seem to get the radio to sit in correctly, I have purchased the following cage http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects2-ct23sk02a-skoda-fabia-octavia-superb-double-din-fascia-plates-kit-p-8635.html#.UUtKsVeZfOM and swapped the constant and ignition wire (thanks to this forum I found out about this trick)

however the radio will not go back far enough, I can see at the back of the dashboard a locating socket for the old radio which appears to be blocking the iPod cable, my question is has anyone removed the plastic at the back of the radio?

Thanks in advance

Rudger

There is like a T piece mate that i had to remove

Just take abit of care :)

hi rudger, yes its a pain that bit of plastic, you can carefully cut it out with a saw, and then your double din will fit in nicely!

Thanks for the replies, I had a feeling I was going to have to cut it out but now its confirmed..... Looks like my Saturday morning job is sorted

good luck, it will fit in like a dream once removed, just watch your fingers when cutting, as its that tough moulded plastic, and watch the wires surrounding the area, i used a little saw blade on my leatherman, but a small plasterboard saw would work too.

due to the weather some of my work got cancelled so I decided to have a crack at getting the radio fitted, took me about 30 mins with a junior hack saw blade and a custom made handle (great stuff polymorph) and the radio slid into its new home like a dream, hours of faffing around trying to get the radio fitted sorted in next to no time.

Thanks again

no probs glad it worked well!

LOL i just did this much better

told you
