Oil pump failures on mk1 octavia's

Featured Replies

Hey gang

Was after some knowledge of these oil pumps in the 1.8t and will replace if there a common problem. A couple questions.

1: worth replacing as mines 2002 with 86k?

2: common failures?

3: cost?

Mines not showing any signs of wear but haven't messuread the pressure so will might replace to keep the engine sweet.

Been quoted £553 all in by skoda as apparently you have to remove the timming belt?

As always your replies are much appreciated

The pickup in the sump getting blocked up seems to be more common problem and has the result as the pump failing.

Very true. That wouldn't help the pump no end. Does any one have the oil pressure ratings for the 1.8t?

Cheers

I will be replacing the oil pickup pipe on my VRS next week newbie along with a new o-ring. As far as I`m aware it's not the oil pump that is the issue on these engines. The pickup pipe gets blocked up with crud and starves the engine of oil.

Just out of interest though, is it worth replacing the oil pump also? Is it true you have to replace timing belt when replacing the oil pump or is it just chain driven from the crank ? Is it a big job?

The oil pump on these cars are very reliable. No point replacing one that is sound.

It is not the pump that goes, it is the reduced oil flow that causes the damage.

The reduced oil flow caused by clogged oil pick up pipe. Clogged up pipe caused by too infrequent oil changes.

Replacing the pick up pipe is a DIY job.

Did guide on this site.

May also be worth replacing sump to turbo oil pipe if you suspect poor maintenance of oil changes.

As these cars are getting older and covering more miles, increased oil changes are a good idea.

It is still very rare to see a engine go on these cars considering the amount out there.

Do you have a part number? or can I just replace with a piece of silicone hose? Do you have a pic showing the pipe in question? Thanks,

Lol replace pick pipe with silicone ??

Dude do some reading on these engines and turbo setups and that will help your forum journey :-)

Its a metal pipe internal to engine ;-)

This is my first turbo car. sorry

Prob best you start doing alot of reading buddy

Lots of helpful info on here

it will cost you less than £25 to do the lot. That includes the rounded headed hex tool need to get one of the sump bolts, OEM sealant, and the O ring and pick up pipe.

drain oil,

remove oil return pipe on sump,

remove the 6000 bolts holding the sump on,

pop sump off.

now you will see the pick up pipe. One of these..

Goto skoda dealers for this, the O ring and the sealant.

replace pick up pipe,

clean out sump,

apply sealant to sump,

replace sump and oil return

change oil filter

replace oil..

all this has taken about 40 mins of your day :) job done.

Any one got any part numbers for these parts please

6000 bolts... :/ Is it worth getting some sort of electric power tool for those, they must take ages to remove?

well i fitted a oil pressure gauge so no need to replace the oil pump now:)

For the life of me, I can't find the thread that explains how to install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and sender. I am pretty sure there is one on this forum, but unable to find it. How frustrating...!

I know the AUQ has a pressure sender, but it doesn't measure the pressure, rather registers pressure exists, if that makes sense.
