Please look in...airbag problem

Featured Replies

Hi folks, your thoughts would be appreciated on this one!

My wife had a prang in our vRS (some muppet went into the side of it from a side road  ) and it duly went to the bodyshop chosen by our insurers (privilege) This was at the beginning of MARCH!!!

3 months have passed and the hold up is apparently a problem with the airbag 'module'? When the accident happpened, both airbags deployed, so had to be replaced. A new module was put in about a month ago, but when the airbag light was reset, they went off, which obviously wasn't meant to happen  Since then, the car has gone to the Skoda dealers where we purchased it from, where they are now waiting to hear from the Skoda tech dept. as to the problem. Apparently the module has been superceded or something and they don't know which one is the correct module now?? Sounds like BS to me, and I've been without my octy for toooo long. We're currently using a Renault Scenic diesel (rental), bit slow tbh!

Has anyone heard of any problems with airbags, or give any advice?

Bodyshop and dealers can be named, if required

Thanks chaps

Ian

Hi

They should not be having the problem finding out what part number is needed at all.

They have F1 active to find out the part number.

Just punch in the chassis number and it will tell you which part number is required.

If they put the Air bag in wrong this may have possibly set it off.

That means that they need the new air bags and new ecu to go with it.

VERY expensive.

But yes sounds like BS to me too!

I worked with Skoda parts for a while. The ecu`s nightmare , but with F1 easy!

When you interogate the airbag ECU it gives you the part number for it. Then ETKA should list the supersessions. The only problem you can have is an airbag ECU comes blank with no coding in it. You need to code it up for what airbags are fitted to the car. until this is done the airbag light will remain on.

But I have never heard of airbags going off when the ecu is connected. If it happened it would have hurt the technician fitting it, sounds fishy to me.

I was told by the workshop manager at the repair centre, that indeed the airbags went off with a technician in the vehicle. Apparently, he got a couple of black eyes for his trouble :shiner:

Anyway, the latest is that the tech guy from the bodyshop has sent data from his laptop to the Skoda tech dept. to show what happened as the airbags deployed. The car is at the dealers because the body shop don't want to fit the airbags because it might happen again and so have passed the problem onto the dealership. I'm getting grief from them 'cause a) they didn't get the work in the firat place and B) they're having to 'right' someone else's problem

Keep it coming guys, any ideas for my next plan of action?

get compensation from them for all your hassle and time wasted, not to mention the wasted insurance money and all sorts
