Whens a Rapid SE not a Rapid SE ?

Featured Replies

Bought an ex demonstrator model launch 1.6TDI SE recently ... from a local dealer with the tantilising statement " full of extras at no extra cost" which inlcuded:

  • Amundsen+ SAT NAV with DAB & Bluetooth
  • Sport seats
  • Heated seats
  • Climate control
  • Tinted glass
  • Rear Parking sensors
  • 17" camelot alloys
  • Mud flaps

which is great! BUT!

although its registered as an SE you DONT get!

  • Front fog lights
  • cruise control
  • dimming panel lights
  • front arm rest
  • Rear Electric Windows

which is listed in the brochure as "SE" equipment... I know the stuff they have added is expensive, but remember if you're tempted to buy one of the launch demonstrators ...whats missing and use this to get a better deal!.... I did an got another £1200 off the asking price...which is even better!

It's not a mistake per se, it's just that the early SEs did not include these and the spec has been upgraded and brochure now changed to reflect that.

I have the same as you, but the with the 1.2TSI (86) engine. Collected yesterday, thus far very pleased, full review later!

Yeh thats what I thought, but if you look at the original launch brochure, it does state that thats what you get, fogs, cruise etc etc....... as I said it's not a problem, just an understanding of whats what..... and certaily a bargaining point!! :hi:

That's the kind of spec I'd be looking at if I could get the cash together .... I might have to live off smart price noodles for a few months or something. Or buy a second hand Octy instead. hmmm.

There's a fair few on the Skoda UK used car site in the same spec: http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/index.aspx?NewSearch=1

Yes there are quite a few like this. It's still a very high spec IMO with Nav and Climatronic etc. Not sure what you mean by dimming panel lights though?

Well there used to be a roller switch next to the headlight leveller on my Octy for dimming the instrument lights ... Seems not to be mentioned at all in the Rapid brochure.... Maybe not then..

Yeah, at the moment I'm trying to get as long as I can out of my Fabia until I can either afford the right car outright, or until it dies and I'm forced to finance the remaining amount I can't cover... None of the finance deals on offer atm look particularly attractive to me.

Thanks for this info, looking at an SE tomorrow which I think is in the same boat. If it is will haggle the price down some more.

I noticed the panel roller was missing on my friends new GOLF when we picked it up. Just had the headlight leveler. IIRC (there was a lot to take in) the dealer found it as an item in the dash menu. Perhaps it is the same on Rapids or some of them. Rather have the dedicated roller myself as on the Octavia probably saves a few Euros doing it that way.

Fabia doesn't have a dimming roller either - something to do with new dash cluster, I quite like it being bright and white.

Not being able to turn down the insrument cluster lighting was one thing I wasn't quite happy with the previous Fabia Elegance; a bit to bright for me. With the Monte we didn't bother upgrading to the maxi, so it has the standard subtle green hew which I personally prefer. The Yeti does hve the white lighting but thankfully adjustable :)

Was offered what I thought was a real SE with a couple of hundred miles on the clock for £11k, when I came to look at the car it was a 62 plate semi SE with 2000 miles. Tried to use it to get more money off but dealer was having none of it so walked away. I'd have gone for it if it had those extras.

Funny thing is that Skoda have screwed up the brochure. I you see the semi SE brochure from the link above the winter pack states front fogs and on the same page is an illustration saying the same. On the new brochures the winter pack doesn't have the front fogs but they've used the same picture. Very confusing ...

Yes, I think the early SEs (like mine) must have been ones which SUK ordered in before the brochures were published - mine does have seated seats but doesn't have front fogs or headlight washers which if you go by the brochure is not possible!

£11k still sounds good for an SE though? What options did it have?

There's a good one here if anyone's interested. 105SE (a newer one with front fogs), only 500 miles on the clock and with satnav and climate: http://www.skoda.net...px?id=602789951#

Looks nice that, I wonder if the Tesco Clubcard on the keyring is included?!

Only option I saw was mats, but not the reversible boot mat. It is a good price and I was tempted but my original budget was £10k and I can get a brand new 13 plate S with delivery miles for that. The only option that I quite like between S and SE is the air con; things like alloys, Bluetooth I can do myself at a later date.

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone else finding that these 'not quite SE Rapids with extras' are registered on the V5 as a S?

Try putting your reg on mycarcheck.com if you don't know what I mean
