Young driver insurance

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I haven't been on here for a long while and my Freedom membership has expired, but I'm wondering if anybody had any tips for my renewal.

My insurance is up for renewal on 18th April, I'll be 21 on the 11th and I'll have 4 years no claims (fingers crossed).

My renewal last year was £1100 with Admiral multicar, however with an extra year NCB and turning 21 they're only wanting to knock £200 off.

I've recently moved house, around 100 yards to be precise, and I'm within a WA8 postcode.

Thanks in advance

Liam

im on admiral multicar fully comp was cheapest way ...

Have a look at Elephant, they was the cheapest around when i renewed mine at the beginning of the month and i can certainly say i aint in the best of postcodes. They quoted me £1415 with 1 years no claims.

CO OP, we got a reasonable quote for WA9 for an 18 year old, they were half what everybody else quoted

blimey!

You young 'uns are getting rinsed

Thats around what I pay, same age, same driving experience, same company but I have less no claims (2 years as a named driver) and a much worse postcode.

^ I reckon! My lad's first venture was a 24 year old 1.3 escort but he failed to the insurance homework - £3.5 pa!! Rapidly sold on.

The car before his current one was a Mk 3 1.8 Golf for which he was paying around £200 p month (that's my annual premium).

Around 24 years ago & at 20 years of age my 2.8i Capri cost me £400 a year to insure. Equivalently now my lad would pay around +10 times that amount!

How times have changed :smirk:

Should qualify the escort was £3.5k pa not £3.50!! :giggle:

Fabia MK II VRS for my 18 year old is £18,000!

On a 1.0litre C1 or similar it is £2300 a year, complete pish take

I'm 23 and just renewed my policy with Admiral (Single Car Policy) - £680 on the '05 Fab vRS

The really interesting bit - I paid a little less than that a year ago to insure a 1.0l Toyota Yaris, which I promptly rolled down a hill.

Admiral paid out for the written off Yaris and repairs to the farmers fences, but still my premium didn't increase!

Guess there just isn't as much car crime up here in the Highlands...

It's a total joke.

I've driven sensibly for 4 years and will continue to so so. No points or crashes.

I live in a nice area but some cars get stolen from thieves coming up from nearby areas.

I work from home so my mileage is under 7k miles. I put a quote through as having my car in the garage and it went up £200 lol!

Try Hastings direct.

Do you have a Tesco Clubcard? I got a good deal through Moneysupermarket.com by adding my Clubcard details to the quote. They were over £200 cheaper for the same car than everyone else, which meant I could get the PD diesel, instead of a 1.2HTP, or SDi and still comfortably afford the insurance as a new driver.

Tried to get the same quote direct through their website and it came out £50 dearer.

multicar on admiral is a bit of a farce, i found the quite online with admiral cheaper then my multicar quote, rang up and told them and they matched it, but was still on multicar and didnt adjust for discount on that, what was the point lol

I'm with Elephant.

23, first year driving and paid £1200 with a child (counts as a distraction) - that's in Birmingham too where it does cost a bit more due to crime. That's on a 1.2 mk1 Fabia.

They pray on the first timers though as I anyway need my car for work and getting the little one around. No choice but to pay up till 25 and/or have more NCB behind me!

I'm 22 and with admiral and managed to knock over £200 off my my renewal by going with diamond.

I search around each year for my son' car insurance. Elephant are always competitive, as are Hastings. Good luck.

I am of the opinion that insurance companies just make figures up in the hope that the majority of customers just accept the quote - I insure 3 cars with admiral - the renewal quote was £1450, about £200 less than previous year - considering all 3 drivers had another years no claims and no convictions I challenged the quote on the phone and they reduced it to £1250 - ask and you may receive !

I'm nearly 26 just got off the phone to Privilege £281.67 :-)

Thats almost £200 cheaper than Adrian Flux and Sky Insurance

Using comparison sites I've found a quote of £736 from a company called "Premium Choice".

Apparently they're rubbish, so I'm thinking I'll use them as a bargaining tool to knock mine down with Admiral.

If they can get it down to £750, I'll be happy.

Have you tried sky insurance from here? They pretty much matched my quote from Premium Choice, paid a little extra but worth it for a better company! Worth a try?

I'll give them a call this afternoon and see if they can do me a good deal.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm 18, in my first year as as named driver (days after passing my test on 26 March) I paid £1,800 for a Merc 1.9 petrol A Class. LV are asking now for just 1k for the renewal which isn't bad!

Not sure on figures for the change to my soon arriving Fab 1.9TDi, but I must say i'm impressed by the no claims discount from LV. Very impressed.

21 fabia vrs with 1 years no claims £100 a month fully comp with Aviva multicar with the old deer having a gt86!! Shame they won't let me drive the gt86 until I'm 25 :(

My God this isn't easy!

Got back from holiday today, my Mum has already jumped ship and moved to Sheila's Wheels so I can't use multicar anymore, so that backup is out of the window.

I called Aviva and they quoted me £911.

I've paid £3000 (Clio), £1600 (Clio) and £1100 (VRS) for the previous 3 years and now I'm 21 and about to have 4 years NCB I thought it would have been cheaper than £900!!!

I'm going to give Sky a call on Monday morning.

I don't understand it, everyone else I've spoken to laugh when they hear the prices I'm getting. Most of them are younger with a VRS or similarly powerful car, having had points and/or claim(s) and not been driving for as long.
