  • I used 17mm superpro bushes on a standard bar with no plastic collars. They went on no bother at all ( using a long bolt first ) its driving fine too just past an m.o.t today.

I would knock them off and fit 17mm ones, otherwise you may find yourself doing them again in the neat future.

Underneath the ARB bushes there is a plastic sleeve around the ARB. This is usually a bigger cause of noise than the bushes themselves. So we smash them off and fit 17mm bushes (on the 19mm vRS bar).

Ah i was looking at my r32 one :D

Donut! ;)

:D weve established that to be true

I shouldn't have said that. Now I'm hungry...

Mate i got a krispy kremes like 5 mibs away

So i hear the word donut n think mmmmmm

To the car

Mmmmmm Krispy Kreme....

Awww shaddap Lloyd, now I'm REALLY hungry! :D

Our one makes them too

Its got a conveyer belt and even a icing waterfall for them to go through

Not bush related but important stuff :)

Thanks for the donut talk guys. You're worse then me when someone mentions food!

Ok, back to bush talk. I've had a read of some more threads, the link on this thread earlier on which takes you to a guide on replacing/re lubricating bushes and seem happy enough with the process.

Actual bush size I require 17mm for a standard vrs bar of 19mm? That is if I smash the collars off underneath my existing bushes, right?? If thats correct does anybody have a part number for oem ones, not super pro or uprated ones, as when I bought my21mm bushes, it was either that or 19mm or 23mm I think. No 17mm size??

Or where I can get them from please? ?

Thanks

Thought you'd like that! Ok I'll get them ordered and see how I get on.

Thanks for part number

Part number above no good:-( can only find 18mm bushes. I know there are poly bushes that are 17mm but is there any that are 17mm or anybody know where I can get them please? ?

Appreciate the help

As much as can remember from doing mine the part numbers are all the same for all sizes apart from the last letter. So

my old standard arb bush ( 17mm ) was 1JO 411 314 P

Ok thanks for your help on this. Have ordered new bushes from vwsonline and should hopefully be with me by Wednesday. I'll get them fitted and let you know how I get on. When I was looking at my bar I noticed that it appears to br rubbing on the oil cooler pipe?? Or at least I thinm thats what it is. Anyone else got this?

Will try and get a pic to show what I mean

Don't know what that pipe is from what I can remember there is no pipe or hose near mine. There is a few clipped into plastic holders around that area maybe one of them is snapped and the hose is hanging down. Try posting a picture up.

Its not a hose its rubbing on. Sorry, getting to grips with engine parts. I'll get a pic up

Hope you can see the pic ok. This is taken underneath the car looking up. This photo is more to show the pipe that the ARB bolt, where it joins to the drop link, is rubbing

This is to show from the side/frontish. Excuse the 3 year old writing

Any ideas why it is doing this??

That doesn't look too good. I'll take a look at mine tomorrow see where my arb links are in relation to that pipe. The first pic looks like a turbo pipe. My first thought there was your arb links could be too short and making the bar sit too high.

Cheers. Its on drivers side and you should be able to see it by just turning the wheel to move it out the way

Right I've had a look at mine this morning.

It was hard to tell of your first photo but I think its the pankake

pipe. That goes to your intercooler which you can't see as its hidden

behind the arch liner. Your link and roll bar seem to be at the right

height but it looks like the bar somehow has moved across to the

passenger side. On mine there is maybe half inch gap. Its probably

due to either broken plastic collars allowing the bar to move sideways

worn bushes, or both. Remove arb brackets, knock the plastic collars off

fit your 17mm bushes but pull the the bar back across more to the drivers

side so you have a gap like mine. Refit your brackets job done. It should be

fairly straight forward. Hope this helps.

That does help. Thanks for confirming position of the bar and the drop links. Probably be fri or weekend now when i get round to do it. Will take photos of before and after and post them up

Both those pics are showing your intercooler pipe(pancake pipe) named due to it's flatness. It is coming from your front bumper intercooler flexi pipe then routes up behind engine to the turbo via bunch of solid pipes and flexi hoses.

The only time I have seen the metal pancake pipe get hit was on mine when I lowered my car a lot and the extra screw thread coming from the drop link ball joint was hitting the pipe. I angle grinded off the extra thread.

As your drop link is actually very close to the pipe my guess is your ARB has lost it's plastic sleeving either one end of ARB or both ends,  which is allowing the whole ARB to slide more one side. (the sleeves butt up to the ARB brackets and stop side to side movement)

I bet if you check the other wheel your drop link is miles out.

Or as someone has stated someone has fitted a none 1.8T drop link of different length(should be 336mm ball joint to balljoint centers)

I think your right. Do you think there will be any deformity to the bar? Will it be a case of fitting the new bushes and if the bar won't go back in place thats how I'll tell?
