tuneing your vrs

Featured Replies

guys realisticly how much bhp can you get out of a vrs for around 1500 pounds and keeping the looks standard like a sleeper . i got a few quid comeing in the next 2 months and can afford to spend 5500 - 6000 on a decent motor and 1500 quid to tune it . i dont want it loud im a family man and i dont want 20 miles to the gallon either . cheers lads gives me something to think about

Eibach springs - £170

312mm calipers discs and pads - £300

Intercooler - £500

Pd150 turbo - £300 used

Custom map - £400

£1670 or there abouts with 190-200bhp

Or buy a leon fr tdi or ibiza cupra and you have the bigger turbo, front mount intercooler as standard and a normal map will see that power anyways

You could probably get a decent ish one for £4500 so gives you a bit more for tuning.

Depends what your aiming for but before you increase the power you should sort out the handling.

Front poly bushes are about £132 from ebay

Suspension. As your a family man a good shock and spring combo will probably be better than coilovers. I have the kw spring and shock set up which was about £450

Decent tires from £75 a corner

Upgraded 312mm brakes which are from an octavia vrs (calipers and carriers approx £175 from ebay)

A rear anti roll bar will make our car a lot more enjoyable in the corners. Whiteline or jabbasport are good brands £140 and £200 respectively

Then onto power upgrades.

A stage 1 remap will be good for between 165bhp to 175 bhp at a push £250-£300

If you want more power you will need a front mount intercooler £250 for DIY setup or £600 for a forge setup

Turbo upgrades. A growing choice now. But hybrid turbos are a good option (approx £750 excl vat )

Once mapped these are good for 220 - 240 tops

If you do go for the 200bhp plus route you will need an upgraded clutch and solid mass flywheel, which will set you back close to £1k

Yeah I'd probably go with what jase said tbh. If you want a Fabia and only a Fabia then go for one, but if you like the Ibiza too, then that'll have more kit on standard. Plus if you spend the £1500 on a hybrid and clutch for the Ibiza Cupra you'll end up with nearer 230bhp.

Personally I'd spend £2000 on an Octavia VRs and throw 1500 (maybe less) at that. That should see you stage 2 and 230-240bhp with 250ish ft/lb. Spend the rest on a nice holiday. My stage 1 1.8T often saw 40mpg on long trips to Wales (being sensible), 28-30 on my daily commute into Birmingham.
