Check with the insurance company beforehand, some underwriters won't accept Cat C write offs (I work in insurance)

personally i would stay away from it being a cat c .... that aside money and mileage wish seems reasonable

Already checked there fine with it will have to send mot number tho

Think it's a good buy as he has accepted just over 3000 for it and it was only cosmetic damage

I wouldnt touch this seller what so ever!!! I just purchased one of the same seller. An 06 plate with 37k on it. Got promised it had the full service. Bushes done. Good tyres the lot!! I flew from glasgow to birmingham to buy it. Got it got up the road then thats when it all kicked off. Needed new front bushes fitted. Needed a service. I need 4 new tyres as the ones on it were full of slashes and nails. There was a hole in the left back part of the sill. Was a crack in the axle. Passenger window wasnt working. Had to put new pads on all round and now i need a new clutch. I bought it 6 weeks ago and ive had to do all this. I hope you find a good fabia but i would swerve that mate.

Mick.

there was a cat c fiesta i was looking at on ebay, the damage was a dented rear bumper it wasnt even a bad dent, a heat gun on there would have sorted it. god knows how it was a cat c

If a car is stolen and the insurer pays out and then it's recovered afterwards it's a cat C. Don't believe anyone who tells you 'it's just a crease in the bumper' cars are not given a cat C over such trivial damage, it would have been repaired. If the damage is that minimal and the parts and labour were that expensive then it would have been a cat D.

Not that i know exactly but that car looks like its been purchased from a company called co-part. Basically they get all the write offs from insurance companies.

IMO i bet he paid less than half of his price stated on the for sale ad. Chucked all the parts on and wrote a little story about its "history"

I'd stay clear. Cat C cars are definitely pits that could hit you hard later on down the road with dodgy repairs.

Ive used this guy in the past, just for the odd parts and stuff as he always has a lot of spares, always seemed genuine to me, but sometimes there is always that one bad car, personally I wouldn't avoid a seller just because one person had a bad experience, look at his feedback, hes got hundreds of positives, base you judgement when you have seen the car...

I have worked on both sides, crash repair and ive also been a field engineer/assessor. All I can say is the first car shown, if a previous CAT C was massively over priced. No car dealers will ever take a previous CAT C or D as a part ex and in the event of another total loss, it can become a massive issue or problem. All I can say is, unless you are capable of repairing a car to as near to pre accident as you can get with as little expense as possible, steer clear.

Personally I would find a decent garage to look it over. Get an all rounder that has an idea about both body and mechanical. The thing is, when ever you buy a car its a risk. Ive been in the trade all my life and its just a case of going through a bit of a routine. The trouble is, I always compare to a survey on a property. You can look at loads, spend money on inspections for cars or surveys for property. At the end of it, its all extra. If you can find a decent garage to get involved, you may be just looking at a couple of hours labour. The bottom line is you cannot check everything so every now and again you will find something that you were not expecting. I have half an idea that it will not be long before your own insurance company insists on carrying out an inspection prior to insuring you on a vehicle new to ones self. It will just be a way of making more money and creating work for themselves. Any way, im waffling, I would just take somebody that has a clue about cars and you know will do their best to spot any bad bits. Also, just be vigilant yourself and take your time looking over it. I have always said its not rocket science, its just a case of using your common sense. One last thing, always HPI check or at minimum use one of the text check info providers. I have found them extremely helpful when I have used them.
