Thanks all - I'll take a look at the rear view mirror connections again but when I looked I'm pretty sure all the cables were still in the block that plugs into the back of the mirror apart from 3 loose cables which I think are for the rain sensor that I don't have. I'll also double check the fuses but didn't find any that were blown on initial inspection.

In terms of DRL's or auto lights - if these were on wouldn't the fog lights still work via the light switch? Just trying to think this one through....

Just to confirm that I ended up taking my Skoda to a dealer to get checked out. They found that the fuse for the diagnostic device had blown - on replacing this the found and cleared numerous errors and stated that they couldn't find the cause for the fault and therefore believed it to be a faulty light switch. They were going to order me another one but I took the car back first and have now found that the lights are working fine... bizarre... glad I didn't get the switch replaced!

Does anyone have a diagram of how this mirror comes apart and how to uninstall? Mine has developed an extremely annoying rattle.
