dump valve problem

Featured Replies

hey

ok so the car broke on me yesterday but after a while it got going but was shuddering, idling all over the place and seriously lacking power.

Codes shown vac problems on cruise, i dont have cruise control??! , also turbo boost malfunction. (cant remember exactly the phrase or code number

Im wondering if the recirc valve thats on there could be faulty so im going to change it. ive seen the forge ones but i really dont want to spend £100+ on something that doesnt cure it, is there a way i can find the fault or bypass it somehow to see if it improves and then buy one?

Any advice welcome :)

Check your pipes over first.

Get us the codes too.

its in the garage at the mo, il see if i can get the codes on sat morning. pipes were fine aparently and they checked the intercooler.

Have they checked under the manifold, sounds like a leak under there possibly a vac line, theres a few to check

the ones under the manifold were all changed last summer at the same time as the "s" one cos they were all cracking lol. il get them to check all the vac lines too

Yay got the codes

Codes 17608. 16755. 17705

Not sure if this will help or not..

17608/P1200/004608 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
  • Power Loss

Possible Causes

  • Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) faulty
  • Diverter Valve faulty

Possible Solutions

  • Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
  • Check / Replace Diverter Valve

couldnt find anything for 16755

17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
  • Power Loss

Possible Causes

  • Leaking Hoses and/or Pipes between Components
  • Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) faulty
  • Diverter Valve faulty
  • Throttle Body dirty
  • Vacuum leak

Possible Solutions

  • Check Hoses and Pipes between Components
  • Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
  • Check / Replace Diverter Valve
  • Check / Clean Throttle Body

[*]Check for Vacuum leak(s) including PCV system

Special Notes

  • Did anyone install an extra (wrong) dump valve?
  • When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve
    • If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

[*]When found in the 3B B5/B5.5 Passat 1.8T, check the PCV "bleeder valve" for example part number 06B-103-245

    • One way to troubleshoot the problem is to pinch closed the vent hose under the coolant bottle, that attaches to the bleeder valve and see if the idle smooths out.

Ahh sounds like the recirculating valve that's on it then. A kind gent off here is sending me a stock one so fingers crossed :)

i can tell you a forge one is worth it! im not re-mapped or anything special but picked up a pot of multi-purpose grease, and im sorted now, take it off, service it.. put it back on.

saves replacing with these plastic carp ones every year.

The plastic ones do not break every year, thats rubbish.

Just put my OEM valve back on after using a forge 007p valve and I have to say the OEM valve appears to be holding boost alot better then the forge(was service two months ago) so i'm sticking with OEM for the time being

its got a baileys one that a previous owner fitted. plan is to fit the stock valve, if it behaves then i might invest in a forge one.

I would stick with stock. Ive changed mine back to stock.

Yea Yea, over exaguration on my part, but i would rather run a serviceable part. personal choice though.

Hi going to sound dumb now but which is the best way round to have the dv in?

how do u mean? it is just a straight swop for the stock recirc valve :)

oh PS the stock valve is now in and she pulls like a train! even getting 50mpg if i drive like a granny on the motorway lol

They have to be fitted with the small connection at the top otherwise the boost is pushing directly on the plunger. So the same way as the standard one was
