Fabia Monte Carlo vs Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

And if you think the insurance on a modified oil burner is higher than a 180bhp vRS you're living in cloudcuckoo land

I think that depends from person to person,

For example I'm a 23 and when I wanted to map my mk1, insurance companies wanted to charge me the earth!

So I get a mk2 VRS and my premiums go down!?!?

But like I said, it's different for everyone with insurance!

  • VRS or Monte, just choose, VRS goes like stinks and the Monte s cheaper to tax, as for the niggles comment, what is warranty for? We have had issues but we are keeping the car at the end of the thre

  • you're swinging?!

My insurance on my Mk2 went down compared to my Mk1 vRS. Admiral gave me £60 back . My Mk1 was standard apart from 312mm brakes

Game, Set, Match - obviously You too must be in whateverland :D

The Mk2 vRS is cheaper because it's an "auto" and has ESP that can't be turned off. My Mk1 was all but standard but I'm guessing if it had been tuned, fiddled with and I went to a specialist it would probably be about the same. Adrian Flux gave me a telephone quote on a bog standard Astra for 3k. Insured it with Direct Line for £1600 in the end

Has anyone got access to a Fabia brochure, please, just to let me know the difference between the RRP of a vRS, Monte Carlo 1.6 CR105 and Elegance CR105 please

And I paid £15k for my one :D Brand new with £1k options for free, additional 2 year warranty (5together) and 3 years "free" servicing. Can't complain really

Broadspeed and that other one had higher prices with all the options then what I negotiated at the dealers.

Good websites, handy when you bargaining :)

Just spotted that the vRS Road Tax is up to £140

That's about right.

I was offered a new one around £14k.

But fortunately I bought an 18 month old one outright because after 4 days I got shot of the thing quick.

I paid £12600 for my Elegance estate on VAT free and 0% finance, can't complain

So that's £2400 difference, less £400 for the map = £2000, less £450 for the Bilstein B12s in a group buy = £1550, less £50 insurance increase = £1500, so actually quite a lot less than a vRS, unless the vRS lasts you 30 years

Then take into account the savings from 60+ mpg, and those 30 years stretch further and further

My vRS insurance basic quite was £183 on the phone. I got my arm twisted and bought everything they had as an add on and it came up to £230/year... Get me a mapped oil chugger for that! Bloody Lupo with just suspension done was setting me back £350/year basic quote!!!

Forgot about that as well - 1.6 CR TDi £20 per year :-)

I was in the market for a new warm supermini I suspect I'd be spending my money with SEAT on an Ibiza CR140 FR. Not only is it the proper successor to the Mk I vRS but you can get decent headlamps...

If I was not a Skoda nut I'd do the same.

:)

I'm hoping they see this monumental missed oppertunity next year with the Fabia mk3.

Not much exaggeration there then?

Every add on? Would one of those not be breakdown cover? When you've got free Skoda Assistance for the length of warranty?

Thanks to all those who understood my original request and provided the respective RRPs of the three models I asked about, which is the only real way of comparing costs

Everyone will have their own tales of getting this deal or that deal, some probably more plausible than others

I seem to remember that when the vRS first came out maxidot and climatronic were on the options list, I don't know if they still are, so the Elegance was probably the best standard equipped model in the range

Brimma you're right - and there will always be cars on forecourts that need to be shifted (like mine).

Also, some people won't like the CR or the VRS respectively.

They may not be able to insure the VRS.

They may not get such a sympathetic insurer when the car has been modified.

I wish my Monte had more kit and didn't feel like it was self destructing on the country roads, so an Elegance may have been a good shout. BUT, I'd have lost the looks, so actually I may have looked at other stuff.

Two other reasons I went for the Monte - 1. they had one at the right price and 2. I was keen to stay Skoda, for brand loyalty and because I could get a better PX deal doing a brand for brand swap than if I went for something different (and yes, I checked at the time and was using a broker, so they had nothing to lose by asking all their represented manufacturers - Ford, VW, Skoda, etc etc).

I only went Skoda again because of here and bang for buck on a new car it was good. I dreaded the thought of having to use other forums and certain marques like the VXR's for example have some good people but plenty of berks too. If I do decide to change then I'll still be staying here

You bought a Skoda because of a car forum... On the Internet??

Yes? No different from people buying because of brand loyalty. This forum is a rare thing because it's a good balance of knowledgeable people, good banter and good meets. Other forums don't have this and I've met some good people along the way. Some forums I've been on are hostile from the outset whereas some members on here have gone out of their way to help me in the past. It's been a bit depressing on here lately with all the talk of politics but on the whole it's a very good forum. If I have a question about my Skoda or most things really there will be someone here that knows the answer. It's like extra support when you buy a car.

I think buying a car because of an enthusiasts forum which gives 'warts and all' and a true reflection of the brand and model is a decidedly better decision than relying on salesman patter!

I also moved from VW to Skoda partly because of this excellent forum.
