Fabia Monte Carlo vs Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

You bought a Skoda because of a car forum... On the Internet??

It helps if you quote the full comment "and bang for buck........" to put things into a proper context :p

  • VRS or Monte, just choose, VRS goes like stinks and the Monte s cheaper to tax, as for the niggles comment, what is warranty for? We have had issues but we are keeping the car at the end of the thre

  • Yes? No different from people buying because of brand loyalty. This forum is a rare thing because it's a good balance of knowledgeable people, good banter and good meets. Other forums don't have this

Bang for buck is fine. The main reason people buy skodas. Just can't believe people would spend so much money on something because there is a forum there on the net in case anything goes wrong.

Take the oil issue the vRS has. I know more about it because of the forum and what the dealer procedures are. When I took mine in I was telling them about the updates and the breather pipe as the next part and they did it. Not that my dealer ever would but because I take interest in knowing more about the car and all the knowledge is here, I'm less likely to get fobbed off. My local Skoda dealer is excellent and was another reason I stuck to Skoda. If I went for Suzuki or Vauxhall for example (nothing set in stone just examples) the local dealer are known for fobbing people off, in Vauxhall's case not even changing oils come service time when under warranty and the forums are sketchy at best. Places where the members are more interested on stick on tat rather than mainly performance and fixing problems. There are exceptions but few and far between.

The car is also under warranty so don't forget that either. That's another safety net. But my last one wasn't and a few niggles were sorted by questions answered on here.

^^ This

I had that with Oil Temp not showing after they switched the car to fixed service schedule. I thought that this is not right but only here I got the confirmation of members having cars on fixed servicing schedule AND oil temp showing on MAXIDOT. So before my next visit for rear wiper motor warranty repair I will be calling them to ensure oil temp will be showing when I'm leaving the garage :). Before I bought the car I came here and extensively search everything there was here on the car. I tried vauxhall ones but were crap and jurno reviews are not worht the paper they are written on...

vrs looks like a cheaper version of the monte carlo,a bit to understated.

Id have gone more for the Monte Carlo looks like a vRS "Halfords" Edition

The Monte is for miles the VRS is for smiles.

The Monte is a good looking motor, but to me it's trying hard to be 'sporty' looking.

In think they have aimed it towards a younger market who want the looks but can't afford to run or insure a faster model.

The Monte is for miles and smiles. The VRS is for worrying about oil consumption and boasting if you get over 40mpg. ;)

Going by this forum lately. :D

LOL, true.

its just different strokes from the Yeti Section, were people say constantly how roomy, frugal and fast a Yeti can be and convince them selves they are not fugly.

or the Citigo section were people constantly post how roomy, frugal and fast they are and sound good,

character filled little vehicles.

At least Fabia owners know what their vehicles look like, (not pretty) and are regularly look at what they are going to get when they get shot of them..

I must admit I really like that car, perhaps with the exception of that front grille - looks like Homer Simpson's face when he tries to think hard :D. I'd say it was the driver's fault but visible snap oversteer on exits (first corner in the vid and then 8:20 a good example). I know drifitng in FWD car is real fun but hardly gets you fast track times and eats away tyres pronto.

Loved the interior, "map-on-the-fly" button (RS button) and the cabin display system. Peculiar fashin with having car noise artificialy produced by the sound system - sounding like a GT-R?!? It's like fitting porche alloys to it - why?

Shame about rear space and no boot to speak of but overall I really liked it! What's the price point on it?

The engine noise is not artificially produced and has absolutely zero link to or from the sound system. In simple terms there's a pipe from the engine toward the cabin with a valve which opens or closes depending on driving circumstances (accelerating/cruising etc..)

Err, in that video review he said you can can have the sound system produce Nissan GT-R engine noise... No amount of piping can do that:)

And I like my coffee black with one sugar and who don't are wrong!

The vRS has an artificial sound in the cabin as well doesn it? The Ibiza Cupra defiantly does, as a few people tried to disconnect it on the other forums

Does it? Gosh if they were going down that route, why couldn't of Skoda artificially replicated an Aston Martin DBR9 or Lexus LFA instead????

I'd pay a lot of money to have that.

I'm sure the new focus ST has a "sound symposer" too which is fake engine noise played through the speakers... What a joke.... Not cool at all!

Yes, I'm sure when given a choice they looked at all the lovely V12 and V8 noises and settled on the Japanese V6 that comes stock with such a quiet exhaust that nearly every owner has changed it. :D

As brilliant as the GTR is

And what I would do to own one (anything)

I dare say they do sound a tad sensible stock. But I guess that isn't helped by it being a V6 twin turbo? Now a straight 6 on the other hand... oh baby! Don't even get me started on flat 6's....

My VRS is too quiet :-(

Don't mix your words, stock they sound ****.

Because they are designed as an "everyday supercar" so have to be quiet.

One of the design ideas was that you could talk to your passenger at 180mph without raising your voice.

I mean really, WHY ???

A nice fruity V8 ar V12 sounds much better.

You just have to raise your voice a bit! :D

Here it is for you, that's how VAG does it. Made me chuckle!

Not sure if vRS has it, not noticed really...

They seem to be using the windsheild as a speaker

Well I didn't want to completely offend you by pointing out faults with your nippy Nissan ;-) (not like you have stock pipes anyhow!)

For me it has to be a V12 or V10 scream to 'butter my parsnips'

My "parsnips" would be well complemented by a big block V8 gurgle, hmmm....

  • 3 weeks later...

I've brought a vrs from Dm Keith in Leeds and drove it back to coventry around 130 miles and saw 44.7 mpg and stuck around 75-80 all the way hit 90 at some points, bet If I didn't use cruise control or AC and stuck to 70 I'd get just under 50, I drive 60 miles a day to work and see I get over 300miles a tank if I'm good brilliant little car

boss fox,

one out of two points proved in a few posts :) :) :)

when does the oil consumptions worries start :) , chapper's have you checked the oil yet?? :p

i'll make my way to bobdogs naughty corner in the yeti forum

Given how some Twinchargers have been since 2010, checking oil when taking ownership of a car and then on occasion is hardly a reason for taking the Pith. IMO.

Actually its not a bad thing for any owner to be aware of how their vehicle leaves a Garage, and to do regular checks them selves.

A few more doing their own tyre pressure checks or adjustments might not go amiss.
