odd clatter noise coming from engine when turned off

Featured Replies

Hi all

Today my car has intermittently made a loud clattery type noise when the engine is turned off. I was pulling into the supermarket and initially i thought someone was dragging a shopping trolley across the concrete but realised it was coming from my engine. I have never heard a sound like it and having no mechanical knowledge I wondered if anyone had any ideas and should i be worried on such a new car?

Cheers

Mine makes a rattley/clattering sound on shut down too.

It's the DMF for sure, but mines a 2006 DSG with 73,000 miles on it...not a 2012 model...seems a bit new to be suffering from DMF failure, but I suppose it's not completely unheard of.

That's bad.....to have 2 fail in quick succession presumably rules out a manufacturing fault in the flywheel.

Do you think driving style had anything to do with it?

Blimey, I have only done 6000 miles!! I'll put clutch in when i go out in it tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. If it is the DMF it will undoubtedly get worse and then hopefully the dealer will be sympathetic as i don't want arguments about driving style!

If it is the DMF, then I'm sure they will replace it under warranty without quibble......I only ask about driving style out of interest!

And focus dmfs are even more problematic than octy dmfs
