Vrs Maf problem?

Featured Replies

Hi. I have had my 53 Vrs estate for about 4 years now and it's a fantastic car. I've never had any real issues up until last night. Started getting really jumpy in first and second below 2k revs. Anything after that the car was fine. Anyway when I got home the car was idling just under 1k but kept jumping up and down by a few 100 revs which it has never done before. This morning I did some reading on here and disconnected the MAF sensor and it appears fine now.

Before I buy a new sensor could it be anything else? I have taken a video of the problem if you need me to upload it. Also am I going to damage the car driving it without the sensor? I just get the dash warning at the moment, it goes when I connect it back up. Just my luck as I need to sell it soon as need a diesel for my new job. Thanks very much.

Possibly a thermostat issues as well?????

How would I tell that. The temp looked ok today whilst driving it round. When it's really cold in the mornings it is a bit jumpy for about a minute, but I thought that was just the cold. Also is it damaging my car not having it connected?

That defo sounds like a MAF issue. You car would run pant's if you disconnect a good working MAF. You will be ok running unplugged as ECU will set a safe mode. But get it fixed ASAP

DO NOT get none OEM MAF though as they are rubbish.

Doubt it buddy as car would run bad with or without MAF unplugged.

Taken the maf off because the bloody part number was underneath. Its 06A906461L incase anybody ever needs it. Ill get a second hand one as I only intend on keeping the car for another month. Also do i have to get the faults cleared when I put the replacement on?

No should not need to clear fault if the fault was only there when unplugged.

So I've swapped it over and it's still the same. Unplugged it and works fine. I'm going to get my mate to check the errors on it later unless anyone else has any ideas.

Turned it on and off a few times and the lights have gone off but still doesn't sound right.

Could be the wiring to the MAF

Just taken it to my mates. Was running like a dog. Kagaroo'd it onto the drive. Ran the diags in it and said something about the MAF signal. He cleared them and its running great now. Hopefully will be ok from now on as I'm selling it next month. Ill update in a couple if days if its all ok. Thanks for the help.

Update:

Still working OK no juddering and loss of power so changing the MAF and clearing the errors must have worked. Fingers crossed as i need to sell it in a couple of weeks.
