Advice on Tuning Boxes

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just looking for some advice on Tuning Boxes.

I used to have a mk2 VRS but couldn't get on with the DSG so I traded up for a new Ibiza 2.0TDI FR (Hope i'm still welcome!).

Now that I've put a few 1000 on the clock I'm looking to up the performance slightly and am considering a Tuning Box (TDI-UK seem reputable). I've read many reviews and posts in regards to the Map v Box debate but want a box for ease of use as well as re-sale etc as I change cars quite regularly.

I've posted on SeatCupra.net but don't think there's anyone using a box a the moment (might tell me something!) so just wanted to see if anyone has any real world experiences so I can make up my mind as to whether its worth it or not. I know this is the Octavia forum but thought that info on usage with CR Diesels would be useful but any advice appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I don't have experience of a tuning box on a VAG car..........However I did have a "rover ron" tuning box on a common rail Rover 75 a few years ago.

It was a decent box with controls to adjust throttle sensitivity, power, and MAF compensation...........It worked really well, gave an extra 30 bhp or so and I loved it.....so I can recommend one on a CR engine.

Just make sure you buy a decent one and not a "resistor in a box" cheepo tuning box.

I have a Tmc tuning box on my Tfsi and gives a good output around 40bhp more , checkout Tmc website

My Tuning box is up for sale as Im selling my car soon.

TMC are very good.Up there with the best but a bit expensive although have heard nothing but praise about them.

+1 for TMC

As it happens my insurance was up for renewal today and following some comparisons I paid the one off fee of £300 about two weeks ago.

Just called them for price of mod (Tuning box)and it came in at an extra £110 for the year! So would be an outlay of almost £400 for the Box and insurance.

Typically ( I don't help myself sometimes) I went on and found a quote for insurance with the mod (and all the same extra's as my current policy) for £290 all in, £10 cheaper than my current insurer. If only I hadn't paid for the year!!!!!!!!

I had a DTUK box on a 1.7cdti vauxhall before I got my Octy, and it was a good unit. DTUK's newer offerings are more sophisticated though, actually pluging in between the ECU and injectors to modify the PWM, rather than just lying about the boost pressure.
